My fiance did the full time access course last year and he wasnt entitled to anything. But he was living at home with his parents so if your situation is different you may get something. His cousin had to travel quite far to the college and she got a small amount of petrol money.

Ask the colleges student finance officer, dont just believe me! lol

PP I don't know about the access course but my SIL decided to train as a teacher and she definitely qualified for help. I think they paid her abut £6,500 a year. I know there's been a lot of adverts lately about becoming a teacher perhaps if you googled for teacher training you might find a bit more?

Look here - as it seems some of the grants have changed since September 2006.

Don't give up they are desperate for teachers. Try giving them a ring as well as they are really helpful and will talk you through your options.

Have you thought of looking to see if you can do anything with the Open University as you could do that along with normal work

If you did do your studying through the OU they offer financial help to people below a certain income threshold. Sorry, I don't know the figure off hand but sure someone on here will know.

    Good luck xx
