Myself and hubby are thinking of taking the kids to the Great Yarmouth area for this years summer holidays, does anyone no what the area is like and if there is alot to do in the area. One other question we are thinking of booking with Park Resorts has any body used them and what are the sites like, weve been to Haven before but never really used the facilities as we found the bars and entertainment complex to expensive for us.We are trying for a weeks holiday on a budget and ive seen two parks i would like to go,Sunnydale or California Cliffs. If anyone has been to either could you tell what they are like thanks in advance.

i have been to great yarmouth once but it was in the winter and i cant remember what the site was called so not much help there. however i have used a park resort site before in clacton on sea and it was fab!! so much nicer than haven i thought.
im hoping to go to great yarmouth this year, some duck resort lol god i've got a rubbish memory. i use the sun holidays and as i have 2 kids under 4 i dont get entertainment passes as they're in bed by 6.30/7pm so its not worth it and also saves money.
hope that helps a bitIt only seems kinky the first time.. :A0 -
I'm in Gt Yarmouth, there are plenty of attractions around and some good eateries. Yarmouth (as most locals dont consider it 'great') has suffered from a bit of an image problem of late, as have many seaside resorts, with London overspill of Asylum seekers in to B&B accommodation. There are some smart new tourist bits - the Time and Tide Museum almost won best new attraction for 2005. The Beach is good with good quality sand, and now with the added novely of counting how many out of the 30 off-shore wind turbines are working.
Along the 'golden mile' you will find Joyland - an under 6 year olds amusement and rides (check out the snails - they are over 100 years old and many children have fond memories of riding the snails), the Britannia Pier with a theatre- usually with Bobby Davro or Pasquale or equal calibre of acts. There are 2 crazy golfs, Sea Life Centre, Loooads of amusements and bar type affairs, and then there is another pier with a family theme, and an indoor play area. At the end of the mile (before the gas power station) you come to the Pleasure Beach - Good/ reasonable value if you get the day wrist band - but the food is pricey there and all a bit fast food orientated.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Great Yarmouth is a bit like a mini Blackpool. Lots of sandy beach, a golden mile, lights, amusement park, great fish and chips.
It gets very breezy on the east coast, a wind break in the height of summer is a necessity on any Norfolk beach.!!
There is history in the town but maybe the links below can help

No idea about the sites.

Out of Yarmouth - but nearby - the best (in my opinion) site is the Wild Duck Haven Park, with pool and bar area, set in a woodland about 4 miles from Yarmouth - nice and tranquil - but if this isnt for you I understand.
Other attractions - Pleasurewood Hills - a theme park with some reasonable rides - good value for a day out if you can find some vouchers to get in (there usually are some on ebay), another place that it is a good idea to take a picnic - there are picnic tables in the site.
Petits animal adventure park - more for younger children but a nice day out
The Broads themselves - there is an new ferry service from Yarmouth to reedham - to then go to Pettits on some days - other days it just does a ferry service to berney Arms - Belton/Burgh Castle and back to Yarmouth - but if you were at the Wild Duck - a good way to 'commute' in to Yarmouth.
DO NOT GO TO CAISTER CASTLE CAR MUSEUM - I went again last year - the first time in 20 years - it was boring and overpriced then - and nothing has changed.
Speedway/Dog track - good during the summer as the stock car night usually has fireworks.
Day Trip to Norwich - some good shops - use the park and ride after 12.30 (i think) and it is £1.50 for the car and the bus is free. - in Norwich the Castle and Forum are worth a visit.
Wroxham - a good shop - but also a lovely riverside location - you can take day hire boats from there.Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

Hi we went a couple of years back and had a fabby time. We stayed http://www.broadlandsands.co.uk/index.html here and couldnt fault it.
We rented caravan via Ebay so got it cheaper than booking on site. The area had loads to do. We went to Pettits Animal Farm and thoroughly enjoyed that..... We went to pleasurewood hills and again had a great time. we went into Yarmouth on the bus, theres a bus stop right outside the park. As previously said tickets from ebay save money.
Id deffinately go back in the future as Daughter aged 11 also thoroughly enjoyed herself.0 -

Caister in Great Yarmouth is a great base, good entertainment, and lots to do for both adults and kids. We usually go a couple of times a year and have a great time If you go through Haven late deals you can get some really cheap holidays including half board. We have gone with park resoerts also but found the facilities were not as good as HavenCompetitions wins 2010

I would recommend Hopton Holiday Village, A really nice Haven site with excellent facilities.
Would also recommend Petits for younger children.

I considered mentioning Hopton - its a good site, and nice views over the cliffs, but I always feel you are slap bang between Lowestoft and Yarmouth, with few direct public transport options.hudsonmat wrote:I would recommend Hopton Holiday Village, A really nice Haven site with excellent facilities.
