problems with the rental agency...can you help..

i rented out my property via an agency. i sent them half of their commission up front and said when everything was in order such as the tenancy agreemetn all sorted i would send them the rest (also i was due to get in some more money at that time so i told them would be easier to send the money). anyway with travel etc and their interent not always working and i was not always down the road to speak to them immediately. anyway even though they did not finish the tenancy agreement (i think they had junior staff and so they kept messing my tenatns and myself around - we were both happy with our arrangemetns and became good friends) i sent them the outstanding monies and even sent them £100 extra by mistake but i would not have chased this up even. then their solicitor put the whole thing to court and now i have started getting horrible court letters for the costs that the agency had to pay their solicitor - rather than us speaking directly!! they now want me to pay for their solicitors fees which have gone to court (or at least they appear though the amounts are all different - they start at a grand and then go down to £500 a few days later so a bit confused by it all). The tenants were never happy with the agency and i sent a letter to the solicitors to show them the type of service we got but they are ignoring them maybe becaue their clietn is being difficult to them. any tips appreciated as this is getting out of hand . the original solicitors fees were £200 even though the agency did not finish their work!!! also i am looking at buying so dont want a bad credit rating. thanks in advance

Did you sign an agreement with the rental agency? One that sets out what they would do and what you would pay?

If so, what does that say about paying any legal fees? Or does it state that the agency would provide the tenancy agreement as part of their service/fees?

""" then their solicitor put the whole thing to court and now i have started getting horrible court letters for the costs""

this sounds as if they took you to court and a judgment was made against you and you will now have to pay the court costs of the letting agent as awarded by the judge. Is this right ?

If it is and you have a judgment against you, if you pay what the judge said you have to pay, within whatever time frame he stipulated, you will not have a County Court Judgement (CCJ) registered against your name. If that time frame has already expired - you now have a CCJ and can do nothing about it.

Did you not receive notification from the court of a future court date?

Sounds strange. I think I would contact the court - there should be a number somewhere on the letterhead to check on the validity of the letter and when was the court date. Explain to them that you were never notified and ask them what you can do now to appeal.

Are you saying that AFTER you paid, they took you to court or did they take you to court and then you paid the original bill (+£100)?
You've said that you've had COURT letters, so it looks like you'll have to pay. Why didn't you contest the case? Where were the papers served?

Have you found out anything yet? Is it a real court letter?
