Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes
Please don't think I'm mad
but I want to give my dog something for christmas, there is no point giving him a toy as he chews them up in a few seconds. What I thought was something to eat that I could make, like mince pies,I know raisins are poisonous to dogs, but what about pastry? I thought if I made pastry cases then I could fill them with something suitable for dogs, but what? if I used dog meat it would go off pretty quick, anyone got any ideas on doggie treats to make :A
Thanks LIH

These older threads might give you some ideas. I'll merge your thread with them later to keep all the ideas together.

I wouldn't fancy putting dog meat in my oven! _pale_ :rotfl:
Why don't you buy him and cook him a whole turkey?
I bought my dog an octopus toy. Got loads of legs for him to chew that he will go nuts!0 -

Have you ever tried a Kong ?
You can fill them full of doggy treats and it'll take Doggo ages to get them out. It's basically indestructable - it's the only toy my dogs still have from when they were chewy puppies.

Kong is brilliant! My Mom uses them for her labs (they chew everything else in seconds)Save the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0 -
My dogs love there kongs, you can stuff them with allsorts, (not liqourice) I sometimes put the dogs dinner in, so they take longer to eat
keeps them occupied for ages.
We've got our dogs the Buster food cubes for christmas, you put bits of dry food or treats/biccies in, and they chase them around the floor, catching the bits as they fall out, its great watching them chase them around the room.

My dog now has a 'Kong home entertainment system' on his wish list for Santa thanks to that link Penny Watcher! When I win the lottery....

Ps - anyone with Staffie's tried the 'adult' Kongs? I gave a puppy one to our swhen he was a pup and he destroyed it, so I'm a bit unsure of treating him to one.January '06 Grocery Challenge (4th - 31st) £320.Week 1 - £73.99 Week 2 £5.10 (so far)

Thanks everyone for suggesting the kong toys, but unfortunately he has destroyed 2 already, the 1st lasted 3 days, the 2nd less than an hour,VERY powerful jaws (staffie),we even tried a car tyre  this lasted the longest, but made such a mess never again.
Didn't realise I wasn't the only mad woman out there,so will have a good look through the recipe thread and the other old threads.

As for treats - I don't make anything myself, but he does love raw apple, carrots, celery etc and cries for his share of the porridge (cooked) in the mornings!
