Son bought a cable to use with the router, its all plugged in and working well.
He bought a 15 metre one, we are using about 2 metres max! Can we cut it in half and sell on (top dollar) to a friend who wants to router her 2 pc's please.
its a 2 3p verified for gigabit ethernet cable (thats whats printed on the side)
can we cut it in half and replug the ends or not?

The answer is yes, but it is probably cheaper, easier, (and safer) to buy a new one.

Yes, but you need to buy the ends and the tool to crimp the ends on. jsut take the cable back and buy a 2m cable. they shouldnt cost you that muchabout £2 each is what I pay for them.
The ends alre also expensive if you buy them in PCworld they sell them in 10's I think, I buy them in bags of 100 for about £7
If you want I will make one up and stick it in the post PM me the details0 -

Panda, your untechie fame may be widespread - he didn't go into the shop and say something like "My mum wants to use her computer in the garden" did he?0

My lovely son............ordered the cable himself online......he then told me! He ordered a 15mtr cable but he didn't have a router!
So off to pc world for a router!
Then we had no joy of fitting it.......2 weeks later the pc blew up so we didn't need a router at all! Works laptop was always iffy (techie term alert) connected to the internet so we had limited access on a good day!
So I had to buy a new pc, then I decided not to connect the laptop at all for fear that would blow up!
Elder son (and the least techie) has a pc for Christmas and so the cable (all mangled up now) has been unearthed and routered in!
That was easy!
so how do I get my freeview box to work in my bedroom? It did work (I had 6 channels) son has all the channels available at the back of the house, but now I have none. I went and bought a booster ariel yesterday and still have none!
on the bright side the outdoor lights I have had put up are still there and on!Panda xx
