Freezer tubs?

Options
Hi,

As part of our battle to decrease our debts, we're looking at the way we shop and cook. And we've discovered that we're wasting loads of money on impulse buys and not cooking economically.

We've decided to batch cook and freeze, but due to shift work we want to freeze meals into single portions.

We currently have some tubs, but had a bit of a disaster (as they were very cheap and the lids have warped with age), and don't want to repeat that experience!

So, can anyone advise me where I can buy some cheap freezer storage boxes, small enough for single portions, but that have really secure lids?!

Thank you very much!

Some suggest putting the meal inside a bag in the dish you will actually cook it in. Then freeze it and when it's solid remove the dish and you have just the bag to store it in and can easily transfer it to the dish to defrost it.

I only freeze a few meals a week and so bought a couple of extra casserole dishes which I then cover with clingfilm or foil and just freeze as they are - then they are ready to go straight in the oven with no messing. ;)

    Hiya

I do a lot of batch cooking for my 10 month old daughter and the freezer tubs I bought was from pound streatcher and I have had no problems with them. They do sets with all different sizes. I also use freezer bags, the ones that have a patch on the front where you can write on whats in them and the date are good and you can pick up rols of them cheaply from any supermarket or poundland, places like that

Poundland takeaway ones excellent - 10 in pack and reused many times. Lids will split if you drop them when frozen, but otherwise no problem
  • I got some boxes from lakeland that I quite like - they weren't the cheapest around, but they do the job... :o

Otherwise, I also freeze things just in bags

Thank you all very much! :)
  • Hi

In Tesco they currently have these "clip and close" tubs reduced. They're priced between £1 for big tub and 50p for the smallest tub. I've seen very similar ones elsewhere for triple the price. I've bought a few and I'm pretty impressed. They don't leak and are microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe - very sturdy too
  • I tend to use freezer bags and label well with description and freeze date.

I do this too .With soups and sauces (bolognaise etc.) I put the prelabeled bag into a pyrex bowl fill then freeze and remove the bag from the bowl when frozen ( putting the bowl shaped frozen bag and contents back into the freezer IYSWIM )

  • Forgot to add , I use the tie handle bags and tie up the bags before freezing (a must if you have a frost free freezer)

    Thanks for the info! :)

I must admit that I'm having an attack of 'pregnancy brain', though. Why is it essential to use tie handle bags in a frost free freezer? :o
