  • I put this on another thread when someone wanted info on odour control.

Also in the USA you can buy underwear with this charcoal impregnated into it but I have not seen it here (they look a bit like j cloths not very flattering but they work). In your case I would put th odour eaters under a cushion for a few hours or overnight.

If you put an odour eater (the insoles you put in sweaty shoes) in the bag the smell will be gone in no time (cut it up if you cannot squeeze it through the hole in the bag). You must get the ones that contain activated charcoal because charcoal is the strongest adsorber known. Details here:-

  • Also use a plastic sheet on top of the mattress (but under a couple of sheets or else uncomfortable) until child is reliable. Some are not dry all night until 5 or later.

well i dont know if this will work but i think it might, leave the mattress in a steamy room (bathroom) so whilst your running your bath put it in there. that should get partly rid of the smell and spray it with a fragrance or somthing like that

  • After years of using it as a place to dump rubbish, my spare bedroom has finally been cleared and decorated.

Anyway, the heating hasn't been on in that room for years, and the mattess smells musty. I've aired the room and have sprayed febreeze on it (2 bottles of the stuff actually), and have put the heating back on in there, but the musty smell has come back.

Does anyone know of a way of cleaning a mattress? Or should I give up and buy a new one? My MSE head doesn't want to buy a new one though!
  • first of all hooever the mattress, both sides

then put several tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda all over the mattress, leave that for a few hours and hoover it off

then (if you can get fresh lavendar and rosemary even better) but if not get some lavendar oil and rosemary (dried)

sprinkle both all over the bed and leave for an hour - then hoover off

do same for other side ifyou like
