Very dodgy list of items being sold by an Ebayer

Hi all,

I was just browsing Ebay for some vouchers when I came across a seller who is selling hundreds of pounds worth vouchers for Next and Debenhams, it strikes me as odd - they all end within 1 hour or so of eachother and I wonder who would be able to get their hands on thousands of pounds of vouchers like that?

http://search.ebay.co.uk/_W0QQsassZchessingtonrhinoQQhtZ-1

Also they all end TODAY - the username is chessingtonrhino - maybe I'm just being paranoid but people could loose hundreds?

If you look at his feedback then you'll see he's been selling these for a while and generally receives positive feedback. I'm not suggesting that they're genuine though as they may well be counterfeit or stolen ?

I think if they were counterfeit or stolen buyers would be quick to leave feedback to that effect, you would expect at the very least 1 person leaving feedback indicating that, if they had been stolen then the shops would have voided the vouchers and there would be a check list of serial numbers for staff in stores to check them off against.

Sometime ago I had a discussion about this on another forum as to where some people might get large amounts of vouchers, a few people explained that either they or friends were often paid out performance bonuses at work using shopping vouchers that can sometimes be worth thousands of pounds.

Companies do this because they can get VAT relief on the vouchers and if they buy in large enough quantities they receive a discount from the supplier, it is a cheaper alternative to paying them the same amount in cash, the employees then go and sell them on eBay to get cash for them.

I cant see why anyone would pay 85 quid to commit to spending 100 quid at one shop, esp argos!!!

Shop around, buy online, and i bet you could get your shopping done for 30% cheaper than what argos can offer in exchange for vouchers.

As it happens I am lookng at buying a Sofa from Argos for around £500, needless to say buying Argos vouchers on eBay would result in a saving of around £100.

Look at my other thread re POSTAL ORDER SCAMS...

The person who conned me when I bought a cooker hood, has ALSO conned a lot of other people selling VOUCHERS.

These may be legit, but i wouldn't risk it!

    cheers

  • Could you use these vouchers to pay a next account?

I've bought Next Vouchers on eBay before.
You can pay off your Next account with them.
If you can £100 vouchers for £85 then it's the same as getting a £15 discount on Next goods.
Having said that, I've just had my first sting.A seller was selling £60 vouchers for BIN £45.She's turned out to be a scammer although I should get my money back via PayPal.
