Can someone please help me get out of talktalk?

Can someone please advise me on how to get out of talktalk? I am sick of the shocking service i have been recieving from talktalk and can't wait to go else where for both broadband and calls. I was previoulsy with Tesco for both and now realise what a mistake I have made by going else where!

I signed up in April for option 3 with free broadband. The sales rep who knocked on my door told me that i would be connected at the begining of september at 8mb but i got connected (due to talktalks incompetence) at the end of septmeber but at a much lower speed than promised, I was promised a credit of £17.99 for the inconvenience the delay caused me.

Most times I never get a return to any of my emails

I recieved difficulty contacting broadband support to set up my connection and each time got a recorded message saying that the service was busy please call again later! (which I'm not sure but hope that i was'nt charged 10p min to listen to)! It took days to get through to someone

When ever I contact customer services I get told that i have come through on the wrong option number to deal with my problem and end up going around in circles. Thats if you manage to get through or are not cut off in the first place.

I can never speak to a line manager, they are apparently never there or are in meetings, i have been promised they would call back but i have never recieved a call back from a manager as promised. One of their agents kept saying " is there anything else i can help you with" over and over again when all i wanted was to speak to someone who could maybe sort out my issue i.e a manager.

I have tried to call them to day and after being cut off twice, I managed to get through to someone to enquire as to when my £17.99 credit was going to be made, and he told me that it wont be as there is no record any where on the system that this was promised to me. Strangly enough there was no manager available.

I know that its only £17.99 but its the principle, after being promised something.

Can someone please please tell me how to get out of this 18 month contract thing without it costing the earth as I am sick and tired of the way that talktalk has treated me. I would much prefer to pay a little bit extra and get a good level of service,

Also I dont find talktalk any cheaper overall than i did by using tesco for broadband and internet as the talk talk call charges seem to be higher.

    See this thread.

However, as you have your broadband already then its harder to try and get out of the 18month minimum term. It's hard to get out of the contract because of the lack of speed as ISP's always state "upto" and don't/can't guarantee you can get the maximum speed possible.

Even though it may say this in the litrature, what happens if a sales man tells you that you will get 8mb, does this count for anything?

By the way I've just found an email promising me £17.99 so i have forworded this to them to see what happens.

Well the thing is - it's classed as hearsay. It's your word against his. He could simply say he said "upto" but you have no proof.

I remember once getting a phonecall from phones4u and offering inclusive landline call plan at a really low rate (can't remember price but it was definitely cheap) so I said I'd think about it and could he call back. When I put the phone down, I checked their website and it appears that it was an offer for only 3months and then went upto normal price (which was expensive anyhow). When the salesman rung back, I queried why he didn't state it was for a limited time (3months) for which he replied, "I did didn't I?"

Trust me, I know he didn't but of course he was on commision so only thing he saw was a chance to earn commission and hope no-one realises/queries it was a limited offer of 3months. It's too late once you switch over to them because the saleman will already have got his commision by then.

Also; it's a well-known fact now in the broadband industry that no accurate figure can be given as it depends on a lot of things (some of which are outside their control) hence why they all state "upto".

However, I'm sure a recent ASA adjudication found that ISP's have to word their literature/ads more carefully and not simply put "upto" - I assume they now either give a more accurate figure based on average speed or clearly state that it's not always possible (in fact it's rare to be honest) to get the maximum speed quoted for those on ADSL broadband.
