Tiscali Talk

Hi guys! :D

OK, I'm with BT, normal line rental jobby and only ever use the blower for freephone numbers. Am with Tiscali BB and have just upgraded to 2mb broadband but for some odd reason (ie me not reading it properly) I seem to have signed up for Tiscali Talk. Got a letter from BT saying I am still paying them line rental only I will pay Tiscali for the calls only.

Fair enough but anyone know whether I'm letting myself in for something dodgy here or can I still get the 2mb BB and stay with BT?

  • Hi

I had a similar problem last month.

I was with Tiscali 1mb at £14.99. I saw on their website 1mb reduced to £12.99 so switched and saved 2 quid .I also didnt read small print properly. It turns out that it comes with free weekend calls as well, whether you want it or not. They will also CPS you. So you need to 1280 ,or whatever prefix (1899 etc) you use to avoid using them during week also.

I complained said I didnt want weekend calls ,they said then 1MB would cost me more ! But because I was with them for over 12 months they relented. So now I only have 1MB plus no Tiscali CPS.

So, if over 12 months and still within 7 day cool off period you could cancel the Tiscali phone. Unless you make a load of weekend calls....

Not sure how Tiscali are with phones , I wanted Tiscali opt in 1615 (?) for free w/end calls only , but they wouldnt give it. As I dont make many w/end calls rejected offer.

PS If Tiscali dont charge a 3p conn fee like BT maybe worth considering.
  • Tiscali have a 5p min charge and operate second billing.
  • Hi

Today I phoned Tiscali and they agreed to give me the option of using their telephone service on my request via 1615 (not CPS) This is exactly what I wanted in the first place. They put me on the free weekend call package (via 1615) .

But for me I intend to use it for overseas calls (except when 18185 are cheaper pmin) and esp. Uk mobiles via 0844 gateway nrs.

So I am saving 3p connection fee every call and the cheapest weekday call to a uk mobile is currently 5ppm via 0844 instead of 18185s 6p and No connection charge :D

Last time I checked Tiscali said their charges are same as BT eg to 0844 numbers but will check shortly.

Do you know what Tiscali charge to call 0844 numbers are they the same as BT?

Dont forget your pay them from the moment you hit the gateway annoucement not from when you reach (or fail to reach) your desired number. So if you dont get through its cost you at least 5p.Where as with 18185 you dont pay if you dont get through.

Yes, as far as I have checked.

I have just checked Tiscalis call prices for 0844 numbers again .Their list of 11/10/06 state that:

The 0844 numbers I am likely to use are the same as BT ,rate g6 (the 0844 566xxxx no to mobiles) is 5ppm inc Vat. g8 and g9 and g10 are also same as BT 1 ,2 an 3ppm respectively.
I havent checked all 0844 numbers.

The only problem is ,as has been mentioned, 0844 are charged whether connected to the end user no. or not.
That is a loss of 5p per unconnected call over 18185.
But Tiscali charge per second billing as against 18185's per min.
Also the charging time will be a bit longer on the 0844 numbers.
    So a 61 secs call on 18185 is 16p weekday , but only 7 to 8p on 0844. (at 5ppm) via Tiscali.
No connection charge and per second billing could mean not a bad deal with Tiscali on these numbers.
