hamper for 16yr Girl

Hiya

I want to make a 'hamper' up for my sisters christmas. She is almost 16yrs old and she is always telling me how much older and out of touch I am (there are 11 yrs between us!).

She knows what her other family christmas pressies will be and none of them are arriving wrapped (eg other sister has bought her concert tickets). So I specifically want to have a few individually wrapped gifts to give her lots of open on christmas day.

I don't have a very big budget, but also want to make sure that i get her items she will use/appreciate but don't really have a clue where to start. I want to make sure i pitch the presents at the right age and don't end up getting her things she'll consider 'too young/old'. My only thought so far was to try and get a benefit makeup set through the NW promotion....

anyone have daughters this age and can offer suggestions??

  • My daughter is 16 and for stocking fillers I am getting her some Dr Who stuff (she's mad about it), 17 make up, body shop bubble bath and stuff in the try size bottles, straightening balm, some accessories (broaches, hair stuff etc) from Accessorize and Dorothy Perkins and some tights, gloves and stuff from New Look. It's not easy buying for a 16 year old though because even if they like the stuff it's just not cool to enthuse about anything!

My youngest is 12 and the next to her in age is nearly 18 but they all like a pair of p.js from primark (£4) sleep mask from Claire's, beauty stuff like lip gloss, nail varnish, face pack etc.

There is something on the freebie board about a free dvd - you could pop that in with a hot choc mug, sachet of hot choc mix et. Call it "Girls night in" and pop in some pringles or popcorn.

Is she "girlie", "Goth", "frillie" or what?

ummm teenage girls can be tough to buy for LOL .. umm make up is gonna be a good bet! take a note of what colours she wears ... if she is into fashion maybe a belt or somthing New Look have some nice ones and often in the sales, .. smellies always a good bet, maybe try "lush" or similar for bath bombs soap bars if she likes to pamper herself in the bath, and if she likes a long soak maybe a bath radio? ... umm trendy mug and hot choccy with marshmellows if she likes things like that, hope this helps in some way ! ...

Try CD WOW (sorry don't have a link) to see if any of her fave artists have albums out. Does she have a particular hobby? My 15 year old is very into horses so I would put some horsey themed goodies. Also smellies / make up are always a good bet and my DD loves fancy knickers from La Senza. Also look in the Avon catalogue - they ahve some fantastic bargins at this time of year. If you have a local rep please use her / him but if not try their website. Some of their make up and nail and bodycare products are very good value.

She is definately more girly than anything. But also 'too cool for school'!!! She is gorgeous and has boys tripping over themselves - i wish i had had confidence like that at her age :rotfl:

In saying that though she is a genuinely lovely girl. Her main hobbies are highland dancing, seeing her friends, texting on her pink mobile phone and she is very musical too.

nice pants sound a good idea - perhaps with the makeup and some hot chocolate type stuff......

a plan is starting but please keep those ideas coming!

I shopped at Avon on line and purchased a variety of items for about £20 (5 presents in total). I got a really nice overnight bag and make up bag reduced from £18 to £8, a funky make up bag with foundation, lipstick, eyeshadow and nail polish in for £4. Then had loads of BOGOFs and made up some little drawstring bags to put them in. If you use the discount code "superfull" you can get a further 15% off.

My daughter is 17. I have got her trial size stuff from Superdrug. She loves legwarmers, bracelets, the long brightly coloured beads, trainer socks, belts, mp3 player (they are cheap now). Does she have a computer? You can get girlie pink mousemats, and cordless mouse etc.

I got a book in the works called 1001 beauty secrets and tips.

Full of recipes for homemade face packs, tips on blow drying etc, make up application etc.

Make up brushes are always handy, as well as cotton buds/pads, maybe finding a funky sack bag she might like.Primark had some lovely mat grey ones (grey is the colour this season!) for £4, maybe filling that as opposed to a traditional hamper.

Primark have some gorgeous lingerie sets - My daughter got a lovely black and white "toile" set that looks like the "La Senza" one - I prefer the primark one.
