Which Slow cooker?

After reading you all rave on about slow cookers, think I`ll go and get one, but which one?
We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 small kids- although the kids are fussy so don`t need to worry about them at mo.
Am I best buying a family sized one we can grow into, which might only be 1/2 full for next few years or going for a smaller one? Could always make a load and freeze rest, starting to think like you lot all ready!!!!!!
Want 1 that i can put inside bit into dishwasher.
Thanks

Hi Swizzlebabe, I have the Morphy Richards 48715 6 litre one. I'm not sure if any of the crockpots are designed to go in the dishwasher. It says in the instructions not to immerse in water as part of the underneath is not glazed and would absorb water.
I have 2 kids as well, I usually make loads in the slow cooker then when you dont feel like cooking you can just grab something out of the freezer. You can also get a large one like mine that is divided so you can do smaller main meal portions in one side and a dessert in the other part. I would recommend the one I have but they also do a smaller version in Asda for £28.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
SNAP!!!!! i have the same one as tiff :-)
again i would fully recommend getting this one trather than the smaller one, especially if you know you'll need a bigger one in a few years.
we had ours as a wedding pressie of the in-laws but if id have bought it i would have bought the bigger one.0 -
The one in Asda is the Morphy Richards 48710, in stainless steel, and its enormous. I bought it 4 weeks ago, and haven't use it yet!!! I am determined not to let this languish in the cupboard (along with the breadmaker) so does anyone have any good (simple) recipes. I am confused, as I have been told that you don't need to use much stock, as the cooking process does not evaporate any excess fluid - unlike oven casserole cooking. I do Delias Beef in Beer regularly, but how do I adapt it for the Slow Cooker.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

Its kind of trial and error really. I'm still trying to get it right, its really surprising how little liquid you need really. It just depends how much sauce you like.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

Are the crockpots easy to clean? Maybe `im just lazy wanting to be able to but it in the dishwasher, got a george foreman grill, it`s great but cleaning it`s not.
will check asda out, and maybe amazon, can`t get tempted then.JAN Grocery Challange £200

Yes, very easy to clean. Just need a sponge with a scouring pad in places. Most of the time I dont even need to do that. A tip I read on an American site was to put water and washing up liquid in the crockpot and turn the cooker on for a while. This makes any dried on bits easy to clean.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I'm sure mine can go in the dishwasher, I will have to check though - trying to find the instruction manual.
Re. Delias Beef in Beer, you add a whole bottle of beer to browned beef and onions. The cooking process (oven) turns it into a rich syrupy sauce - would Slow Cooking have the same effect?Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!

Found the morphy richards 48715 on amazon for £24.51 incl del, which is £9 cheaper than argos and £10 cheaper than at others, checked website it does go in dishwasher, so looks like i`m sorted. Although it does seem alot bigger than the others, are you sure it`s not too big?JAN Grocery Challange £200

Yes it can. Just found the booklet.

I think that mine is big, and its the Morphy Richards 48710 which is 3.5 litres (which it says has a working capacity of 2½ litres/4½ pints) To give you an idea of quantities needed for a meal it says to use 700g of stewing beef.Only 5% of those who can give blood, actually do!
