Bargain Book Sites Hunt

Hi

I am an avid reader and love buying lots of books. I am always on the look out for a good read or a cookery book or two but like to buy them at a reasonable cost.

Perhaps we could all pool our collective knowledge of booksites and find the best bargain sites to help us save?

For starters my favourites are:

http://www.thebookpeople.co.uk - very , very good and recent books.

http://www.greenmetropolis.com good range and 5p to the Woodland Trust

http://www.index-books.com - limited range buts some quirky stuff and gift sets

In addition, there are always Oxfam (abe books) and Amazon too. Are there others too? Let's see if we can find out.....

Beware of book clubs like http://www.bookgiant.co.uk and all the rest at http://www.booksdirect.co.uk/ where you have to make a membership commitment to buy again (they vary from 1 further order to 6) and the books are cheaper on Amazon etc.
Plus I don't know whether these book clubs still send you stuff you don't want to preview like I heard they did in the past.

Having wasted probably thousands of pounds on books in my younger days, I now have a rule. If I'm not going to read it more than once, I dont buy it new: I either borrow from a library (on order if a new book), or buy for about 20p at a boot sale.
This also reduces clutter.
On the other hand, if you know you will read or refer to it many times, buy a hardback . (Possibly on ebay?). HTH

If you extend the search to cheap high street bookshops you can include places like http://www.theworks.gb.com/ http://www.bbwbooks.co.uk/

http://www.abebooks.co.uk/ enables the searching of the catalogues of 13500 independent book sellers. I've used it a few times and never had any problems.

There's also eBay as well (obviously).

Try https://www.readitswapit.co.uk - it's great!

Swap the books you don't want any more with ones you do. I've used it quite a bit and still get excited over every swap. You just pick a book, ask someone to swap, if they decide they want one of your books you both pop them in the post.

With the new postage prices most paperbacks go for about 55-75p second class.

I love readitswapit too but have to differ on the price of postage. I find almost all my books are bigger than the large letter category and cost more now than before- more like £1.35
