Starting traditions

Hello!

I want to start up some nice xmas fmaily traditions, for my girls to have each year. I was wondering what you do? We see family on xmas day every year, and will carry on doing that, but I don't know what kind of things to start doing. With them only being 1 this christmas, it doesn't really matter this year, but would like to get things started.

I thought about getting a calender with drawers, and in each one put a decoration and a chocolate each, so that each morning they can open the drawer and get a chocolate and put a new decoration on the tree. So if anyone has seen any nice versions of a 'drawer type' calendar, please let me know.

I thought that, on the big day, we can spend the evening playing games or something, so will have to buy them games one year.

What do you do each and every xmas?

  • Beware the family traditions! ;)

Take birthdays ... our tradition is that the birthday girl gets a treasure hunt that eventually ends up with said girl in bed with mummy and daddy and sisters at the end of the bed. Presents are duly opened.

This goes on for years even when the eldest is 21.
Picture this ... we stay at a London hotel for a 21st birthday treat. Eldest has a partner now and they come too.

So we have two people in their 20s, an 18 year old and a 14 year old searching for clues through a London hotel in their pyjamas.

Then they all end up on mummy and daddy's bed - partner included! :D

    Christmas ...

Children bring stockings to mummy and daddy's bed to open.
Three children have their photo taken sitting in a row on the stairs (every year)
Room prepared, fire lit and children open their presents one at a time.

Buck's fizz breakfast (little ones had orange juice in champers glasses)

Always ... wild board games in the afternoon :D
    de do-do-do, de dar-dar-dar ;)

My parents used to take my brother and I to the panto on Christmas Eve, then if we wanted to we were allowed to stay up and go to Midnight Mass. When you're a young kid who was usually in bed by about 8pm that was a big treat! ;)

    And me ! :D :j

    Our traditions:

*We all go out for a meal on Xmas Eve - parents, sis & all children - although last year we went the day before as we all had so much to do.

    * We bake for Santa on Christmas Eve - my girls are 12 & 14 :rotfl:

    * When we put the Xmas tree up YOU HAVE TO wear xmas hats and a scarf if you wish to participate. This is all done to a 'xmas hits' cd & dancing is compulsory :D I'm looking forward to them doing this when they are 16 :rotfl:

    * We usully get an xmas DVD to watch on Christmas Eve too.

    ooooooooooooo, I LOVE XMAS :j :j :j :j :j :j

Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

    ooo, I remember another :D

Santa somehow ALWAYS manages to hide a sack of gifts - one for each person to have after xmas dinner - as long as they've eaten their sprouts :D

There's always a couple of spares in case anyone pops in after lunch :)

    New outfit for Christmas parties
Watch a nice xmas dvd on Christmas eve with a buffet dinner
Always find theres no time for games on Christmas day as the time flies by with building new toys etc so Boxing day our day for playing games etc
