Gosh you guys are organised over here, a Christmas thread already!! Anyway I'm super duper excited as I'm spending Christmas and New Years in Edinburgh. Its my first proper visit (went when i was younger, can't remember much except it was very lovely and clean!).
We haven't planned anything as yet, we're thinking Princes street than onto a club. I just wanted some tips from the natives about exciting places to go on afterwards. I know its probably all going to be expensive but as its budgeted for I dont mind splashing out a bit! So any hints and tips would be great! Cheers :beer:0 -

thats a pic i took when i was up there a couple of weeks ago - panoramic shot. The views are amazing - but not advisable in the snow lol. (Edinburgh castle is on right hand side and mountain in the background is the pentlands)Never do things tomorow when you can do them today.0 -
I can recommend a couple of restaurants near to Haymarket Station. One is Chop Chop (Chinese) at the foot of Morrison Street, owned by a Chinese lady and gets superb reviews, great dumplings! 2 of us stuffed ourselves and had a bottle of wine at £11 and the bill came to £33. Round the corner on West Maitland Street is a small place called Khukuri (Nepalese/Indian) which is really good. I've only had lunch there (about £6.95 for 3 courses) but friends who eat there in the evening say it is reasonably priced.0

How exciting MSE Archna, no excuses from you I'll need to meet you and find out all the MoneySaving Towers gossip
When you say Princes Street and then a club is that for New Year's Eve as you do need to have tickets for Princes Street. As for clubs I'll let someone younger point you in the right direction for that.
For anyone else thinking about visiting Travel Lodge are releasing £15 rooms as from 6pm on Thursday 9 November for the festive season0 -
Hiya,
Thanks for the suggestions so far. I'm open to any form of entertainment for the evening really. Some live music would be great or a decent club night. My friend has booked tickets for Princes Street so that's part of the eveningg sorted. Can't wait!
And thanks for the pics mclaren the view looks wow!0 -
I'm lucky in that I have 8 people staying in my small 1 bed flat on Hogmanay! I've decided that I'll have a bit of a party...everyone's gonna get baked potatoes for dinner...good for lining the stomach I say.
Luckily I only live a 20 min walk from town so I don't have to worry about getting home!:j Take That 23/12/2007:j :dance:0 -
I've just booked a the Travelodge in Kinross for the 5th and 6th of December for me, boyfriend and our 4 month old baby. We did the same last year and just drove to the nearest 'park and ride' and spent both days in Edinburgh. I cant wait, I loved the Christmas market last year, spent ages walking round it...went back to it about 5 times in one day!!! I was also tempted to go on the ice rink,( but I was 9 weeks pregnant and didnt think it was such a good idea!!!)0

We did the Christmas tour of Mary King's Close last night and I can highly recommend, not many days left for this one but I would imagine the Historic Tour is equally as interesting.
