Hi,
I just built myself a new system but the problem was it kept rebooting so I checked the memory with memtest86 and it came up with errors.
But sometimes everytime I boot up my system from cold it says "Insert system disk..." and just stops, sometimes the machine will boot straight away?
Can this be related to faulty RAM?

If its coming up with that at start up then its unable to see the hard drive ot its not seeing your hard drive as a bootable drive. I would check your drive connections and also remove any faulty RAM.0

sounds like the faulty ram has corrupted the windows partition. You could try a repair widnows when you press f8 on boot up or is it f10 cant remember which. If tahts doesnt work it could be a fresh install.
No longer a user, goodbye folks. PLEASE delete my account. Thank you0 -
What's the spec of your new system?
What psu did you fit? What's its power rating and ampage on the +3.3, +5 and +12V rails?

Before you go down the faulty ram, etc....check the IDE cable (ribbon cable which connects the HDD to the motherboard).
I have on a few occasions had systems crash on boot, random crash when using them and error messages comming up on boot. On occassions this has been down to the IDE cable being faulty.
These days, first thing I check is the connections (as suggested earlier), if it's not that then I change the IDE cable and then change the memory. Usually it will be one of those things.
It is an advantage having a few computers in the house especially when you need to check something, more of a problem if you haven't because you cannot test it in another system
Forgot to add.....check you have fitted the heatsink to the processor correctly, also check that there is some form of thermal compound between the processor and heatsink, also (this may sound dumb) check that the protective plastic covering the thermal tape/paste on the heatsink has been removed.....I have come across this a few times
If it's an AMD system you've build they are a !!!!!! for heat and that could cause random crash, etc, especially if the heatsink/compound isn't fitted correctlyWelcome, rogerramjet.

HI Fayraz,
Give us the specs on your system.
If memtest is showing errors----you have a harware problem in either CPU/motherboard/memory. Most likely memory---but we cannot tell u more till we have the specs of the system---give us details also please0 -
Thanks for your replies;
My system specs are:
P4 3GHz FSB800
Asus P4S800
Maxtor Diamondmax plus 9 120GB ATA/133
GeForce 6600GT 128MB
Crucial 512MB PC3200 RAM
1 x optical drive
1 x floppy drive
...I am using a 350w Power Supply.
I have tried a different stick of RAM in the system and ran memtest86 and it found no errors, so I persume that all my other components are fine and it was the memory that was faulty.
The hard drive only seems to display this message when the computer has been off for a few hours, otherwise I can boot and restart the system no problem after I get it started. Everything is normal when I get it too work, I have checked the drive with PowerMax and it came up with no errors?0 -
What Vdimm do you have set for your Crucial? Try 2.8v and re-run Memtest.
