Looking at getting a vintage car/motorbike for country fairs/rally exhibition
I know I need public liability insurance, but what other options are there out there for me?
The car/motorbike will not be used on the road (not MOT or taxed) It would be transported via trailer etc to show and then unloaded. When I move the car/motorbike (ie drive it around the ring/parade) what sort of insurance will I need??

Hi - I can see a few problems here.If the car or motorcycle is used in public places such as a showground you will need to have motor insurance for it and and this means having an MOT as well.If it is many years old then it should be exempt from car tax.Classic car/bike insurance is usually fairly cheap.I suggest you start with Aon Classic Car Division in Dudley as they have schemes for cars and bikes.0 -
Thanks for that,
it was kind of what i had expected, but the problem is I was only going to 'show' the motorbike, not get it to road standards and MOT it etc.
Is there any club I could join that would give me cover? There must be loads of people out there in the same position as me, with cars/bikes that are shown without MOT and insurance.Smile it confuses people!0 -
Hi,
I have two classic cars and a classic motorcycle, they are all insured through Adrian Flux who always seem to come out on top for price. Ours are all used on the road so they all have tax and MOT. Flux are very helpful, so it might be worth giving them a call and if it is possible to insure it without an MOT I'm sure that they will give you a reasonable quote.
I know that lots of vehicles are trailered to shows so I'm sure that there is a policy that suits your needs.
BTW Made a claim through Flux a couple of years ago and surprisingly they were very efficient in dealing with it. Would highly recommend you take out 'agreed value' insurance - you have to take photo's from various angles and they say whether they agree with the value - this means if it gets written off you don't have to argue about it's value, also if there is some damage, they are more likely to get it repaired than write it off. We didn't have agreed value and suffered an engine fire! Made things a bit more complicated - but we have learnt our lesson!! It doesn't cost much more to have agreed value - worth every penny though in my opinion.
Also worth checking out classic car/bike websites to see if they have a forum. I use the VolksZone forum (for VW's) and find that people are always willing to share knowledge and advice on there. You could try asking the question on there and I'm sure you will get quite a few responses very quickly!
I hope some of the above helps.0 -
Hi,
I have been looking for a good classic bike insurance for my husbands bikes as it is due for renewal. Does anyone have any hints on what companies are the best and cheapest if possible.

Hi - try carole nash / aon classic in dudley (01384 552660) / the owners club for the make of bike as they often have a scheme arranged / lancaster insurance0

As well as Adrian Flux, give MSM http://www.msminsurance.co.uk/ a try. Their customer service is second-to-none, very friendly and a personal service, they also do all sorts of specialist insurance.

Without a doubt your first stop has to be Adrian Flux as a couple of people have already said.0

Also a user of VZi and a beetle owner I can recommend this link for an instant online price for insurance.
As far as I know you do not need to be MOT certified or insured to drive on private land, however I would be surprised if you would find an insurer with public liability that would pay out. My opinion is if your vehicle should at least be fully insured regardless of MOT.
I suppose the best way of finding out though is to ring some of these insurers and pose the Q to them.
