My TV Licence is due end of this month and now that we can not pay at the post office I thought I would pay direct debit. I have just received the details of the monthly payments and am I confused, the total cost is £131.50 a year so I assumed the monthly payments whether 10 or 12 would make up to this amount, they dont, I pay 5 payments of £26.30 from 1st Nov to 1 Mar 2007 total amount £131.50 then I pay one payment on the 1st Apr 2007 of £11.05 then payments of £10.95 from then on this makes my next years (end Sep to end Sep)TV Licence cost of £196.80. Is anyone else in the same boat or is it just me. I have e mailed them for clarification.

With the monthly DD, you pay for this years license in the first 6 months, then you start on next years 6 months early (quite correct Al about both the payments and the 'benefits').0

I understand the direct debit 6 mths before and 6 months after but as the payment is an annual one I would expect tp have only paid for half a year up front until the next year 6 mths early comes into force, I see no way of getting back the extra 6 mths payment (years payment in the first 6 mths or double the amount required) I will have paid as the payments continue on and on, so I look at it as a scam with absolutely no benefit in going DD.

Hi Gary
The 'benefit' of paying it this way is that it goes out on the same day each month and you don't have to think about it.
We pay all our household bills by D/D and wouldn't dream of going to the post office to pay any of them. TV licence is just one of them - £11.37 will go out on Monday and that's it, don't have to give it a thought.

You can pay quartery instead which is not in advance...off hand though I think they charge you an extra £5.00 per year for that procedure0
