I had the 3 month 1/2 price offer that alot of people snapped up back in August. Then got Sky Movies free for a month when threatened to quit in Jan.
Rang them again today, telling them the usual story of enjoying sky but not being able to afford it or warrant the price, and the very helpful/nice bloke said would I be willing to stay with them if they offered me a simliar deal to the one I took up in August!
WHAM BAM!! 3 more months of the full package for £20.50 with the first month actually being £11 due to account credit!
Thanks to this site I have saved some more money, and can watch the Sports again. (sorry to my wife!)LBM 12.09.12 - £53K in debt.

How did you manage to get it half price???
I just called them to cancel my subscription hoping to get offered 3 months at half-price, but all they've done is reduce my package size, removing movies and sports, so I only pay £19.50 instead of £41 a month now"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

Sounds like you were perhaps not firm enough, when they offered that you perhaps should have said that the only channels you watch are movies (the wife) and sports (the husband), so to reduce it to the minimum is not really worthwhile. All or nothing for you I think.
Why don't you ring again, tell them it is not worth you keeping just the basic package and you want to cancel (be firm). It is not that you don't like Sky, it is just the £41 a month is too much.
Hopefully you may get what you want.
Let me know how you get on.

Thanks! Maybe I need a few lessons in assertiveness
I'll give it a couple of hours then call back saying my (non-existant) husband isn't happy and wants me to cancel the lot and go to cable instead"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I just got my mate to ring up at work, he got offered half price on his current package (so they are definately in the mood today). He would of liked the whole lot, but half price is still a good offer.
(They are currently desperate to keep their figures looking good, so will do nearly anything to stop you cancelling. In three months i'm going to be looking for Sky+ but that is a completely different ball game!!)
Good Luck

I dont watch sports so I took the Family + Movies for £17.50
£2 Cheaper and more channels, bargain!!!
He said well you have been with us 2 years, he didnt seem to mention I got a full new install for free 3 months ago0 -
Yes you do need to be firm that you want to cancel. I phoned up the other day to cancel, I do actually want to cancel. She tried to get me to sign up to the family pack for £12.50. I firmly told her I wanted to cancel, that I didn't want it. She kept offering me stuff. No, I firmly confirmed my intention to cancel. She kept asking me watch I watched. I told her I was going on holiday and I didn't want it in the house while I was away. She kept trying to get me to stay, stupidly I told her that I'd had the half price for three months. She grabbed it and offered me that package, if I said I would stay. I reiterated that I wanted to leave. Then she offered me the entertainment pack for £13.50. I didn't want it, in the end I took the movie pack for £17.50 just because I wanted to get off the phone. The woman had the cheek to tell me if I wanted to save money, I should stay home and watch sky. That cancellations department is far worse than aol.0

Phoned up on 11 Jan. I was on full package and had been for a couple of years. Said I wanted to cancel. Offered family + sports for one month at 19.95. Finally accepted after being told repeatedly the full package half price deal was not available.
Rang today to cancel again - ie one month later. Offered family package at 13.95 for 3 months. Reiterated that all I watch is movies and Sports. Not interested in rest of channels.
Not offered any other deal at all. Confirmed my cancellation. Even asked if new subscriber deal was available and told no.
Fair enough - going ahead with cancellation. Not going to pay more than new subscribers for my package. If they offer it to one, they should offer it to all. Seems they don't particularly care about losing a long term customer.0 -
If people are offered deals - can you post the Day and TIME of your call on this thread. I would like to see if there is a pattern to what is being offered. Thanks.
I rang today at 12.30pm Wed 09 Feb0
