Ebay/paypal postage problem

I have a tiny problem and hoping someone can help me out.

I sold a pair of baby shoes on Ebay for 99p the other day with £2.00 stated as the postage available to UK only. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&item=200027181838&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&rd=1

An american won the auction and paid me straight away through paypal using the UK postage. I have sent him a message telling him that he paid the wrong postage and I will find out how much it will cost to go to USA etc.. All by other American buyers contact me or wait for me to contact them about the postage.

My problem is this - I would prefer to refund him and then start the transaction over again - just so we both know whats going on. I went to paypal and saw he had paid me with a credit card and so of the £2.99 he paid I only got £2.67 - the remaining going to paypal for the credit card fee.

If I refund him do I have to pay the 32p myself ?? I know its not alot but I would rather not. Should I keep the payment and ask him to pay the remaining postage? I'm also worried he won't want to carry on with the transaction as the postage is going to be around £6.

Thanks

  • Refund the payment and send an adjusted invoice. The fees will be cancelled from the original payment.

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Also if you have a premier account, and I assume you do as the payment was accepted, then you will pay fees whatever payment method the buyer uses to fund his paypal payment.

  • Thankyou! I've refunded and resent the invoice. Just hope he'll be ok with the new price lol
  • I'm going through the same hell with an American buyer too.
Why do ther always presume UK postage includes them?
We've gone into a long wrangle because she is refusing to pay interntional postage costs and I finally closed the dispute after she wanted me to send her two invoices. One in dollars and the other sterling.
Good luck with this American buyer. You may need it!!
Third time lucky on WW I hope :j
