Right hope this makes sense,
What i need to do is swop all my info(browser/bookmarks/videos/wanadoo broadband connection) from my old tower(amd 2.4,cd rw) to my new one i bought off me mate(p4 3.0 cd rw and dvd r)
Both are running xp and 120g h/d's,
Can any off you clever techy people help me out and give me info on what is the easiest way of getting all my stuff off my old comp's hard-drive onto the hard-drive of my newer faster comp??????
Thanks in advance

Files and Settings Transfer Wizard built into XP will shift a lot of it and stick it more or less the correct place. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;293118
I would be tempted to stick the old drive in the new PC as a slave temporarily to move the big stuff (videos, etc).0 -
You could use something like Norton Ghost (there are some freeware equivalents about) to do a copy of the old hard drive and then do a repair install of XP.Hug provider for depression thread :grouphug:

Think i might give the(easy) second option a go. So am i right in thinking that all i need to do is to remove h/d from old comp and fit to new(used) comp. as a second drive and then would it be just a simple(yes i am :-) ) case of copying all the stuff off the old drive to the new one and then i could refit old h/d back into old comp ready to give to my mate. ??????0 -
Yep
And you can then format it whilst it's fitted as the slave second drive, so your mate doesn't get your data.
Just make sure you set the jumper on the back of the old drive to SL before you fit it to the new machine.

Hey tog.
First off i see you are a fan of the young ones
So does "I'VE GOT A PORSCHE" ring a bell
Now I don't need to format it afterwords because there are a few vids on there that my mate wants,if ya know what i mean
Also what this thing ya mean about "setting the jumper to SL"
Cheers IAN
OH wait a minute does it mean slave??0 -

What makes you think that your 'new' PC will be faster ? The speed ratings, self assigned by the manufacturers are often not deserved. Does this new PC run your applications faster and did they need to be run any faster. Was the processor type a bottle neck or was it the motherboard chipset ? Anyway we all need a buddy who will buy our PC system that is OK, but not at the cutting edge of technology. Intel Mhz are not an indicator of superiority over AMD or other processor manufacturers. I hope you got a bargain.
PS Intel are a tad slower when it comes to games, allegedly according to some reviewers, who may be wrong in their comparative reviews.
Do you have benchmark tests that can compare the two systems.
