Stains in a toilet bowl

Help please, anyone got a tried and tested method of getting stains shifted from the toilet bowl? These are lime deposits etc. Tried someones method of flat cola but that only made the water brown and the stains possibly even darker (though maybe am imagining that). Any assistance greatly appreciated. Have loads of products in the house (though just bought bottle of stardrops which I used to clean shower - brilliant) so will be reducing my purchases. Many thanks
If it seems too good to be true, it probably is, unless its from this forum!

  • Try:

    1. a sterident tablet ( 1 tab in the bowl overnight then flush the next morning)

    2. Lime lite (don the rubber gloves, get a scouring pad(not metal) and put some limelite on the scourer and scrub away.

    3. Bleach

Sorry I'm sure someone a lot more knowledgeable will be along to help, these are just methods I have tried and they do work for me.

  • Hiya, I used the blocks from toilet duck when i rented a house with a nasty loo.. Worked brilliantly.
I did see on "how clean is your house" they dropped effervescent tablets (hangover cure) down there and that's supposed to work too.
The toilet duck ones are heavy duty though.

  • Use hydrochloric acid as a last resort. You can buy it at hardware stores.
This is a powerful chemical and can will eat away serious stains from the past. For this reason, follow the directions exactly and don’t let it sit longer than the directions indicate or you will “etch” the surface of the porcelain, and the toilet will stain faster than ever!

    Hi misery-able,

Personally I'd recommend vinegar or failing that I have been known to use Harpic limescale remover from time to time. :o

We have quite a few threads on getting limescale off a toilet bowl that should help, so I've listed a few of them below.

I`ve bought some limescale remover tablets from Aldi - Active Toilet Tablets - for £1.29 for 16 and up to now i`ve used half of them. The stains are nearly all gone with only a little in places now.I can`t believe how good they are, i`ve tried allsorts before, but these are deffo the best.I put one in the bowl last thing at night.I`ve bought another box today.

Harpic Limescale Remover is brill. I'd tried everything when we first moved into our house (even scrapping limescale off with a screwdriver!!). Harpic removed it completely.

I also have used vinegar to shift stubborn toilet limescale stains. What I do I pour half a bottle of very cheap vinegar in the bowl and leave it overnight - or all day long when I'm out at work. After that I flush the toilet then I vigorously manoeuvre the brush to dislodge the limescale.

Might need a couple of "treatments" depending on the thickness of the limescale deposits, but it does work a treat and it's cheaper than the usual proprietary descaling brands.

After that, the occasional pouring of some vinegar in the bowl will prevent limescale from forming in the first place.

    :)

Try Astonish toilet cleaning tablets. I thought our outside loo should be condemned (2 DDs and I refuse to go near it!) until I tried these. I have to say I was..... well.....Astonished! :D
    I have plenty of willpower - it's won't power I need.
