Hi, guys although not money saving as such:rolleyes: . Was looking for suggestions on food to take on holiday with us. We are going to mablethorpe for 4 days and staying in caravan, we don't really want to spend a fortune on food and so was wondering what I could take. I have thought of a couple already like sausages for kids (they love them), cereal and bread. But rather stuck for dinners in evenings, any ideas would gratefully be recieved.:D

I sometimes take a couple of jars of cook in sauces and then can get meat locally. I cook from scratch at home but you don't always want to take all the ingredients away with you.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Cheers, thanks for the advice guys. My children are 6yrs,3yrs and 8mnths. Obviously not a prob for 8mnth old and other 2 eat almost anything. We will be taking the car with us and is about 3hrs away. I will definetley be taking tins and stuff or buy it locally when we first get there. What I didn't want to do was have to go to the shop on camp or eat out all the time. Again, thanks for the advice.:smileyhea:heart: Mrs Lea Nov 5th '11

if only 3 hours you should be fine- pasta and pasta sauces, bottle of wine, vegetables and cook in sauces, the good old can opener and cork screw, fruit, tinned soup, beans, salad items, potatoes, packets of crisps, packed lunch for journey, coffee, tomato sauce, washing up liquid for dishes, jam, spaghetti, eggs (?) for soilders for little ones.0

I always take my nonstick frying pan which has a lid, my cooks knife.Love living in a village in the country side0

Kitchen Roll , Olive Oil, Washing up liquid, tomatoe ketchup ,salt and pepper, although Lord E does fill his pockets everytime he visits McDonalds for the office.
Washing powder just in case you need to do some , also saves on quantity of clothes you are taking.
Margarine,,pasta, cook in sauces and freezer bags , just in case you need to make a packed lunch , saves lugging tupperware (like) boxes everywhere .

When we had our caravan I would buy the cardboard cartons from Wilkinsons with the foil lids and would cook a chilli for me and a stew for hubby and daughter. These can just be stuck in the caravan oven whilst cooking a pan of rice/potatoes on the hob (of course you can put the cooked potatoes in with the stew too). This way I knew we had a home cooked meal on the first night. Once eaten the cartons can then be thrown away which means less washing up. You can also put HM pasta sauces in these.
I used to wash and bag salad too so that I didn't need to wash it once on holiday (saves if you have to keep fetching water).
If you are going to have a large enough freezer you could take oven chips (in ours we could only fit one portion plus one small pizza!) We used to love having baked potatoes too and if the weather is cold this also helps to keep the caravan warm!
