Car seat - keeping them in!

Options
Little man is now 19 months old and can get out of just about everything and it worries me in the car, i have tried tightening it but he still gets his arms out but then he hurts his arms and screams, does anyone have any ideas on how to keep him in and keep his arms in, we have tried giving him something to hold but he get fed up with that and launches it and hes not a sleeper in the car like most. Do i fork out for another car seat? Ive been looking at the booster type seats which still have the 5 point harness and then the seat belt over so double strapped.

Any advice most welcome;)
The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Is there some way of tying the shoulder straps together that would be easy to undo?

get a car driving toy that sits in front of him to get him out of the habit.like the one Maggie simpson has, I'm sorry I can't remember the name, I thought it was 'baby driver' or something similar.

be careful though as this can cause car sickness.

Of course he is at the age where he is realising bad behaviour will get your attention just as much as good behaviour does, so keep an eye out for him manipulating the situation.

Goes without saying, never ever be tempted to let him travel without it.
The law also changes pretty soon on car seats so he must remain in a suitably sized one.

Cheers, i didnt know the snug sit existed, can these be bought from the shops? or is it only from that company?

The car toy wouldnt be good as i drive with the seat forward and he would really have to lean forward to play with that.

Our dd did this a few times. We were travelling down the M1 at the time and it was a nightmare. I sit in the front passenger seat so had to keep reaching round to put her arms back in. They really are little houdinis aren't they!

What I found that works, is just to keep putting their arms back in, no fuss or attention. I guess that wouldn't help though if you are usually in the car as the driver with no passenger to do that for you.

  • My little girl has been taking her arms out of the harness practically ever since she went into her next stage car seat - about 2 years!!! Every time she does it we stop and put her arms back in. We tell her she's naughty, won't have treats, take toys away, won't go in car, won't go to Play School (which she loves), nothing seems to work. Thank you so much for posting the Snug Sit, I will DEFINATELY be buying one of those.

There's a toy driving wheel in Poundland today just the wheel and noisy buttons in the middle. The electronic peeps and honks might drive you nuts, but worth taking him to poundland to check his reaction to it?

I'd agree that the snugsits are definitely worth the money. I searched for them on the internet when I got them for my twins but can't remember where I bought them from. We used them every time for a few months until they had stopped even trying to escape then kept them in the back of the car and used them if needed.
