VW LT35 Timing Belt Tensioner Failure

My husband drives a VW LT35. Twice now in 18 months, the timing belt tensioner has failed causing pretty major damage to the engine. How do I find out if this is a known manufacturer,s fault in this model of engine. It seems unusual for this fault to occur twice in a short space of time particularly as the vehicle has not clocked up a great deal of mileage between the two instances.
Twins, twice the laughs, twice the fun, twice the mess!:j:j
