Me and OH are desperatley wanting to be out of the country for New Year's 2011. I know it is the worst time to travel as all the prices are bumped up which is why we've never done it before, this year we're determined to.
looking at spending New Years in New York followed by a few days in Miami.
Have got this quote from Opodo........any thoughts are welcome? I think they are reasonable but nervous about booking so far in advance incase further sales on later in the year.
Would much prefer direct flights but struggling to find them?

Flying out on the 25th Dec might be cheaper, so perhaps go to Florida first then up to NYC.
You could book a one way NYC-MIA/FLL or vice versa, separately.
There are no direct flights from MIA-MAN, so consider Fort Lauderdale FLL-MAN or vice versa.
Many airlines haven't confirmed their winter flights yet, so flight times might change.
Many MSE'rs went for deals on AF/DL/KLM and had their flight times changed.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
Thanks Richard. We were keen to have Christmas in the UK though so may look at going out on 26th instead, never thought of that?
Will def look at Fort Lauderdale times too.
I'm guessing we risk booking now anyway as you never know what might happen between now and then, just wonder if we leave it later then prices will shoot up as everyone looks to christmas/new year. Hoping we beat the rush now!0 -
There are a couple of things you could try to keep the costs down, worth looking but uncertain as to what the impact on cost would be.
1. Try booking an open-jaw to New York and back from Miami and booking a single internal flight for the transfer.
2. Try booking a return from New York up front and book a return to Miami internal.
These methods could yield different results, but not necesssarily cheaper.
Can I ask is there any specific reason you want to be in NYC for NYE?0 -
Can I ask how you're planning on getting from NYC to Miami? As a native Floridian, even I would think twice about that road trip! You're looking at 2 - 3 days straight driving. It's mostly straight-shot interstate, but around D.C., Atlanta, and all of south Florida you're looking at insane traffic congestion. I've done the drive twice and my God...
Flying is a better idea.
Miami is an odd city. I went to university there and you have to be incredibly careful where you go as the violent crime is very dangerous, real, and high. The airport is a crap hole, everyone is rude, and you will leave hating Americans (which isn't fair, as we're lovely really).0 -
if your flying nyc-mia then choose an airline like AA and fly to mia with a stopover in nyc. you 'should' get charged a mia fare with a stopover charge (used to be) £55. you can also fly out of man to nyc, but then back into london.
you might need to book at a specialist flight centre, as most travel agents don't have a clue when it comes to flights!!0 -
Thanks for the help guys. Sorry only just re-found the thread. The flights with Opodo have jumped massively now so not looking like so much of a bargain.
Still keen to by in NYC for NYE though, cos I'm determined not to be in this country for NYE this year and why not go to NYC. I know we'll be paying over the odds and it will be cheaper to go the week after.0 -
Plus, planning on flying from NYC to MIA0
