hacked in even with rapportalliance-leicester

Hi, I have had rapport on comp for several months now. alliance-leicester blocked my a/c because they say I was compromised 2 weeks ago.To get a new pin I have had to take a screenshot of A&L login page showing rapport on, ( green), just done that. However, they told me to never use bookmarks or favourites, which I have been doing. They insistI clear web browser, history, cookies, before I log in by typing url in address bar only.As they used my 8 digit ID number and 5 digit pin, A/L are only changing 5 digit pin.third line of security question was not breached, hence no loss? I would have thought bookmarking a secure rapport address would be safe. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Leaving 8 digit ID same seems daft to me:

    A couple of questions
When you say you had Raport on did you have it set to send details to the Rapport team?
When they said never use bookmarks, was that just for the A&L site address?

    Cheers.

Hi Stevie, I first of all typed in url and ensured rapport was verified before bookmaking it, plus several other banks I use,so I always ensure I am on rapports secure site? I had to take screenshot of login page showing active green to Rapport-alliance-lecester.co.uk as an attachment.I never use this account, just check on it occasionally, it,s linked to my hsbc main a/c, so when compromise took place no one knows, just the 8th march hack in attempt.Their security said A&L must not be bookmarked, others are up to me but not reccomended by them.Even had to take passport to branch to clear myself as ID;then they phoned me with details of hack and their login procedure.Said no need for 8 digit change even though thats thefirst line of security, ps , I sent login report using rapports own report also

I tend to search for the site everytime on Google, also have Mcafee site advisor, the sites at the top on Google search are unlikely to be phishers (I hope).
I just wondered how they knew you had a problem, do you have the box ticked that says information can be sent to Rapport security team if there is suspicious activity?

I never use bookmarks or favourites to access banking institutions.

Oh, and it may seem a bit 'over the top' so to speak. But before logging onto any financial institution, I always disconnect the Internet and clear the web browser/history/cookies.
After I've closed the page down, I go through the disconnect etc procedure again.

You could just install a firewall and don't go onto cheapo !!!!!! sites. Does the same thing.

You may want to download this and use it to check that most of your software is patched up to date, I find it great and fairly easy to use.

My thoughts entirely. I do delete history etc regularly, but to do it before entering bank site is a bit OTT.I do not know how they ,or when they found out I had been compromised, they did not let me know, I had to phone them on 0844 to ask why I was blocked?Told to take passport to branch, then they phoned days later with data.I would have thought bookmarking would be safer, less keylogging chance. How they picked my 8 digit ID and 5 digit correctly, but not my security quetion is puzzling? Do I still use bookmarks with my other banks or type url in every time? They cattagorically said do NOT google for the address:::or any other browser. The mind boggles.
