What am I doing wrong?

Options
When I attempt to insert a link, I am not getting the bit that allows me to call my link whatever (if you know what I mean). It ends up a great big long link instead. What am I doing wrong? I used to be able to do it.

It doesn't work on mine either, but there is a way around it...

    1) Use the link tag thing anyway to enter the link as normal:
    link1.jpg

    2) When the html is on the screen, there will be a section that is highlighted, in between the second lot of square brackets and the last bit that says [/url]:
    link2.jpg

    3) Just over type this with wahtever text you are wanting to appear:
    Link3.jpg

And you should end up with this:

    Whatever you want

The easiest way I've just discovered is to right hand click on your link and save. Then, in the reply box, write the wording you want to appear. Highlight the wording, click the link maker thingie and paste your link in. When you hit return, whatever you've highlighted should appear as your link.

Does that make sense? I'm far from a techie type!

I thought "link maker thingie" explained it perfectly :T

I usually call the "link maker thingie" the blue globe :)

The thing to remember when using that is it will appear pre-populated with http:, delete that before pasting your link and it will be fine.

If you are using Firefox you may have to use Ctrl and V instead of paste :)

I should add that my eyesight isn't great and neither is my monitor. As a result, I had no idea the blue blob was meant to be a globe! LOL I shall call it that in future! (I have the same trouble with some of the smilies!)

here's the a-z bit about links.

The standard editor used to work differently from the Enhanced Interface when inserting links. Now the way the old Standard Editor way has been replaced in vbulletin 3.5.

I think they had to do that for the new fast-switching between the Standard and Enhanced interface

    :)
