  • Anyone had experience of what sky and/or yourcalls.net are charging customers if they use 0844 and 0871 prefix numbers on international calls (many of the cheapest in callchecker start with these numbers)
I had a nasty shock with Euphony when they charged me around 75p a minute for 0871 numbers - when quoted BT price was around 10p

As always if you use a CPS provider (that's all that's available with Sky Talk at the moment), the advice is simply to use a 1280 prefix to route such calls via BT - that way you avoid such nasty 'surprises'.

However, if you switch your line rental (e.g. yourcalls.net), you may well get clobbered (they all appear to go to great lengths to hide what they charge for calling 084/087 numbers).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

    I work for Yourcalls.net

    Yourcalls.net prices:

0845 is 5p per minute peak, 3p per minute off peak/weekend
0870 is 10p per minute peak, 5p per minute off peak/weekend

However, I always recommend our customers use 18185 for 0870 and DialAround for 0845 calls.

The non-geo rates are currently under review, so when they're cheaper I'll be sure to let you guys know.

    'You'? Surely you mean 'They'?
