Nutty Nanas' thread

I've noticed we have loads of parenting threads, but no Grandparents ones:(, so am starting one here:j:j.Any grandparent who has anything funny to contribute, as well as general chat about their grandkids, and rants about their kids, is free to join in :D
I have a darling Grandaughter who's nickname is Boo, she's now 10 months and absolutely adorabubble.I have her to stay over at least one night a week, and she is soo good :D:D

Do you actually feel like they are related to you?

I feel very much detached from mine as though he is not even related.. and then find him as unpleasant to look after/tolerate as other peoples children.

Of course I wouldn't let DS know he'd be devastated..

I feel rather bad about it actually.. my mother and sisters seem to think he is wonderful but I just cannot get past the barrier of feeling like he doesn't 'belong'... :(

I know a few Nanas who aren't close to their Sons' kids, sometimes cos DILs put barriers in the way:(I can't imagine being as close to another one as this:o

lol.. I do exactly that.. and I dread them askingg me to look after him.

I do wonder if it is different being a sons child rather than a daughters child though.. ??

DIL is fine, very much part of the family.

My Mum reckons it is, ie she can give me advice about how I look after my kid(or did do occasionally when she was little) , but not the DIL who she's scared of offending:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I only have a DD so will never know:(:(

I was rather hoping this was going to be a recipe thread.

    ie Nutty banana bread.

How about great aunts? Not that I let anyone use the "g" word in my hearing. I have also told dd I don't want to be grandma or nana. Not that she or her brother look like producing any time soon!!

We have a great neice who is 15 months old and as cute as a button. We don't see her too often (200 miles away) but she is very affectionate and not the least bit afraid of us even though we are relative strangers.
