I was considering switching to Scottish Power. However, when I use the cashback sites (TCB or quidco) the option to pay quarterly by DD on receipt of bill vanishes. :(

Paying monthly by DD is a more expensive option for me due to the £150 p.a prompt payment discount available when paying quarterly.

These high cashback values just show how much profit the utility companies are making on gas & elec at the moment due to not passing on the savings from the wholesale markets to their customers. So regular switching through the cashback sites is one way to get your own back on them.

After it was all set up couldnt you then cancel the direct debit and then revert to your chosen method of payment.

"£150 p.a prompt payment discount available when paying quarterly"

 I never realised that prompt payment discount was that generous.

(Stupidly placed 'thanks' button.) Only with some tariffs and payment methods.
