A computer services co we have used for a year or so have emailed me this Fujitsu-Siemens PC Tower offer. I'm buying the £225 one. No web page, just a Word Doc with pics etc. which I can send you if you pm me. The £100 inc VAT Acer flat screen is not bad either (my son has the identical 17" one - pretty good display maybe not graphic designer standard though).
I asked if these are quiet PCs (home office use you see) they said yes & the fan switches off when not needed.

Anyone able to tell me if the £299 one is any good?!?
Would like to be able to play a few games here and there so I imagine the RAM might need another 512meg but what about the rest?!
Cheers

Well, the graphics card is pants. It's a 6200, which is pretty basic, but worst of all it's a Turbocache. What a wonderful name for something awful! What it means is that the card shares your mainboard memory, but it does so over the PCI-e bus, which is not designed for that sort of traffic, thus slowing everything down. You'll need a new graphics card to play games, really. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
Plus there's no garauntee that that isn't an integrated graphics card, and the board might not have an expansion slot, fujitsu are kind of known for that.0

Ok, cheers for the advice guys!
Will continue to wait for another Dell misprice!

I think these are really office/media PCs. The high end one (Scaleo P) should have a PCI Express expansion slot in it per a spec I saw on another site but you would have to check. Meanwhile my son is playing "Guild Wars" quite happily on his old AMD/1GHz/512MB pc with a Radeon graphics card plugged into the AGP slot.0

Has anyone bought one of these yet? £199~299 appears better than Dell.
The specs of the Nvidia 6200SE graphics card say it is a PCIe card so there must be a slot and can't be integrated.
Turbocache doesn't mean the card has no memory. It has "64Mb of dedicated High Speed Video RAM and ALSO uses up to an additional 256MB of the main memory"... if required. Sooo a lot of the expense is RAM, and the majority is only used when playing intensive games, so if you want a fast card, but don't want to pay loads more for a card that you do seldom use.. yada yada.
If I was spending £300 on a new PC would I expect better than that..hmm?
Is there a link to it on the internet or Fujitsu? Many people have knowledge, only the wise know how to apply it. You must try to soar like an eagle, even when surrounded by turkies. (.Y.)0 -
Found one of them here ...

I'm currently using a 6200 in my PC and can play games like World of Warcraft, Sims 2 etc. I think this card is fine for the majority of people.
How anyone can justify £300 on a GFX card just to have the detail turned to max baffles me!?!?! Gimme a passive cooled cheapo card like the 6200 and the difference in cash anyday.0 -

Yes I saw that one in Laptopsdirect when I was checking if this really was a bargain before posting the offer - their price for the 80GB hard drive one is £212 + VAT so can anyone beat £200 inc VAT?0 -
£249 @ dabs but with 160GB hard disk

Any idea how much Adelante will charge for delivery?0
