Dispatches, 8th Feb: Post Office Undercover

Two reporters go undercover as agency postmen to find out if the Royal Mail has delivered on claims that it is modernising and improving its service.
"The reporters find an antiquated system with lax security, poorly trained agency workers - many of whom are clearly not up to the job - damaged and defective equipment and allegations of stealing.
With over four million pounds a year being paid in compensation to customers for lost post and a recent dip in Royal Mail's delivery performance, Dispatches asks if the organisation is fit for purpose."
Should be an eye-opener for peeps selling on Ebay/Amazon and relying on the Post Office...

I note the summary doesn't include any allusions to the competence of the management. My TV is broken!

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
we shall see how it goes
howeverOut on their rounds, they are bombarded with complaints from angry members of the public who have experienced damaged mail, delays and poor service, and behind the scenes some managers and workers express contempt for the customer and their concerns.
given everyone says they are at work when the post arrives 'late'
who is doing the bombarding?0 -
How long the reporters were they undercover for? Given enough time, you could probably find enough stuff to fill an hour-long program about anyone.
Also, £4M paid out in compensation for lost parcels. Assuming each payout was for £39, that's only 110,000 or so items going missing (black hole on the Italian border might be the cause of quite a few of them). They probably lose the same percentage of post / parcels as any other courier.
Take the Dispatches report in the same way you'd take a Daily Mail report: with a huge pinch of salt.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

The post office is not fit for purpose, I lost count of my post that was lost and so much of it is delivered to the wrong address, for years Ive been getting post adressed to others in this area, it's a disgrace.0

I had a letter last year that was addressed to Mr and Mrs XXXXXXXX with our county on it. It arrived only took 4 days. I was very impressed0 -
Also wonder what problems Dispatches would find if they went undercover with some of these couriers!0
