where to park with a blue badge????

i was in romford travelodge last weekend enjoying a one night break for £9 and parked my car in a disabled bay near the hotel that had no parking, where you were allowed to park for 3 hours between 08.30 and 18.30 monday to saturday. well as it was saturday evening at 17.30 i assumed my car would be ok parked there overnight, as all restrictions would have been lifted an hour after parking. well being paranoid (not one ticket in 25 years, return to driving after 6 years and 3 tickets in last 6 months) i had a quick look at it after we had dinner at 10.30pm and it was fine. my son then loaded car up ready to leave at 12 the next morning and it was still ok. i thought i would pop back to the pound shop i had missed the day before so before leaving we went around the corner only to return an hour later triumphant with all my bargains to find i had a parking ticket under windscreen 10 minutes prior. i was so upset i didnt even read it initially and just sat in my chair ranting. when finally read it, it said i had not displayed my blue badge in the prescribed manner. what the hell did that mean. both parts were clearly visible on huge flat dashboard, you couldnt miss them. all i had not done was put time correct from day before as thought i did not need to with the restrictions ending the night before. the whole way home i ranted and swore at myself. some cheap weekend this was. thought i had been so clever following all my mse info and tips on things and then get a £120 fine which could be reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days. when i got home later i was still seething and tried finding out more about this prescribed manner as it had a code 40 written next to it but looked that up and it said the same prescribed manner bla bla bla. has anyone had similar experience who maybe could throw some light on it all as i have another weekend booked in brighton in 2 weeks that was also booked in one of their sales but am scared stiff now about where to park when i get there and it will ruin weekend if i am driving around for hours trying to find the perfect spot that looks safe or worse spend a fortune having car in and out of car parks abd using taxis. please help.... sorry for exploding

Hi, you may want to post this in the parking fines forum - there are people there who seem clued up on dealing with these things. They'll probably ask you if it's a council or private parking firm, and possibly to scan the tickets and post them (with all your details removed) so they can check it's valid.

I'm wondering if you would have got a ticket if you'd not had the blue badge showing - was it possible for anyone to park there, or only blue badge holders?

And wonder if the ticket is because you appeared not to have set the time, ie it said you'd arrived at 17:30 but nothing to show this was the day before and not today.

but agree that the parking fines forums is probably best.

was it a council carpark or a private company? as been said post this in the parking fines slot, as if it is private company that dished out the fine, there may be hope not to pay.

  • If you can afford to take chance of paying the full amount, keep calm and appeal. Explain that the time was correct as the car was parked at x time. Check the parking boards and just keep your nerve. It may not work, but it's worth a go. They will probably say no right up to the tribunal stage.

I got one overturned on appeal.

it was just a piece of land where some restaurants backing on to them. they were painted out spaces with disabled marking on each space and each had a sign above it giving details of restrictions during week but said no restrictions after 18.30 on the saturday

It sounds like a private company then?

Have you posted it in the parking forum yet?

Have you paid it? If it is private (not council) then do not pay it until you've had advice from the parking forum.
