Las Vegas/New York

Options
Hi

I am planning to go to Las Vegas for a few nights and then back to New York.

Does anyone know of any two centre deals around at the moment, I am planning to go the second week of February.?

Any tips especially welcome, as never been to Las Vegas before

Many thanks

James

Because you're flying East to West and therefore "gaining" time I would fly to NY first leaving LHR in the morning.
Then ditto re NYC to Vegas leave AM to arrive a little later in Vegas.

Then do the overnight trip from Vegas to UK as the time you 'lose' is mostly the overnight trip.

For only 3 nights in Vegas you do not really need a car as there is enough to entertain you as a newbie.

I'd have the maximum nights in NYC.

    Have fun

Agree wholehartedly with the above advice except for the car. If you are planning on going to thr Grand Canyon I'd advise a car as a coach trip is very long and boring as there's nothing much to see and you are restricted to their times and time spent there.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Grand Canyon from Las vegas is about 4 hours each way in a car. so not really worth it.

If they are newbies to Vegas then they'll have enough
    to do IMHO.

Best way to see the Grand Canyon on such a short trip is by helicopter, though it's a tad expensive!

Hoover Dam is about an hour away but I found it a bit boring, just a very large chunk of concrete, with a traffic jam on top of it!
  • DEFINATELY a helicopter to Grand Canyon - there are lots of companies around the Strip that offer them. If you don't fancy going to the Hoover Dam then you helicopter trip should fly over it as they all follow virtually the same flight plan.

We went to Vegas last year and were originally planning 4 nights in Vegas and 4 nights in NY. However, we ended up spending the whole time in Vegas - and thank god we did! Our jet lag was so bad we didn't see much of Vegas in the first few days and would have missed laoads otherwise.

I wasn't keen on the idea of Vegas (which is why were were originally going to NY too) but I have to say I loved it. There is so much to do. I did a post of free attractions in Vegas, but the system has probably deleted it now...

And I would recommend a helicopter flight to the Grand Canyon too. Everyone I know who has been on the little plane has puked. Word of warning though - they sell it as exclusive saying there are only seven people in the helicopter. True enough but when we went there were 6 helicopters going so there were 43 people there in all...

  • Get a helicopter ride that lands in the canyon itself and then you'll be able to see the size of it from the ground. Car is a no-no. We had 5 days there and were struggling to see what we wanted (perhaps another day). The grandour of las vegas is fantastic, can't wait to go back. Take your imagination of what you think it's like and then times is by 100!!!
