Statute Barred debt passed on what do I do now?

Hi there A few months ago I received several letters from Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd asking me to pay a debt accrued with HSBC bank, I know that this debt is statute barred as it was from over 6 years ago. So I ignored the letters and threw them in the bin, and they stopped sending them after a while. However, today, I've received a letter from Buchanan Clark and wells on behalf of Lowell Portfolio wanting the said £312.68 owed.
The letter is as follows:-
Dear Miss XXXXXXX
We have been instructed by Lowell Portfolio 1 Ltd to recover an overdue debt, in the sum of £312.68 on their behalf.
Our clients have informed us that they are unaware of any legitimate reason for non-payment of their account and they would prefer an amicable settlement.
Please call our 24 hour payment line immediately on 0844 571 4200 to make payment by credit or debit card. Payment is also accepted online at www.paybcwonline.com
Should there be any matter that you would like to bring to our attention or if you wish to discuss your financial circumstances in relation to the debt please call us immediately.
Yours faithfully
For and on behalf of buchanan clark and wells
My question is do I ignore this and future letters from this company too or do I contact them?
Thanks in advance for any help and advice offered.

If it is statute barred, you need to tell them, do not ignore the letters. Unless you tell them it is statute barred, they will keep sending letters. As they either do not know it is barred, or they assume you don't know , as the debt still exists payments can be made towards it.
Send them the statute barred letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=11571227#post11571227Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

I also have received letters from Lovells and BCW, I do not owe anything but I do just keep ignoring them,
Throw them in the bin where they belong....I have never seen any evidence that they come after anyone unless somebody out there can prove me wrong.
They try to bully vulnerable people with threatening letters, they are scum!0 -
If you ignore letters they won't stop coming.
If you do not believe the debt is yours, send the prove it letter - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
