Earlier this evening the phone rang answered it and it was an automated answerphone thing telling me it was DHL to call an 0701 number about delivery for my radio.
Immediately my suspicians were raised, a) dhl dont leave messages like especially not to a premium rate number and b) i havent ordered a radio!!!!
Did a quick google search and this came up from the bbc.
Dont fool for it, i bet a lot of vulnerable people have!!!!!
Barstewards the people that do this!!!

I've just had that phone call about 2 mins ago!
If it weren't for this site I may well have phoned up to find out what was going on as I'm not waiting for a radio to be delivered!0 -

Although I pressed your thanks button divadee, I just want to say double thanks because just before I read your post today, I placed an order for - a radio!! Although I'm very cautious (some people would say too cautious, given some of the nasty experiences I've encountered and also because I always bear in mind the helpful warnings given on this site) I could have been badly stung by this one, given the circumstances! So thanks! :T0 -

your more than welcome.
I think i would of fallen for it had i not been to sceptical. I normally question everything so thought well give it a quick google search first.
It just makes me mad that i bet a lot of people will fall for this, not because they are stupid or anything, just that it could sound very plausible!!!
I have told all my family and elderly neighbours etc.... Pass the word on!! Hopefully these low life theives will !!!!!! off then (which i doubt!!)0 -

Thanks for this, I personally was already aware of 070 numbers, however, my parents are not, and am sure that they'll be the 'market' that the scammers are trying to con.... my parents no matter how many times i tell them always fall for the 'too good to be true' deals/scratchcards etc... i'll have to put a note up above the telephone next time i'm there....

I was wondering if my experience was something similar. The phone rang about twice and then stopped. I did a 1471 and found it was a local number but one I didn't recognise. I rang it and after about two or three rings I could hear it stop and then start again. I quickly hung up because I suspected that the call had been diverted to a premium rate line. We are all curious and when you think it is a local number and won't cost much, you are likely to call to find out what it is all about.
I contacted some very special friends of mine who work in consumer complaints at a well known British broadcasting corporation (can't say who but B*C might give you a clue) and got them to look into it. Last I heard, BT were investigating as it wasn't quite kosher.Don't buy the Sun.0 -
I had a phonecall from DHL on 24/6/06, it was also from a Ben asking me to phone him about delivery of a radio. When I answered the phone there was a slight pause before someone spoke, then this Ben reeled off his recorded message asking me to call him in the office about a delivery of radio, he gave an 07 number but to be honest I switched off and never caught the whole number, as I knew I wasn't waiting for a radio to be delivered
I just wonder how many people have been caught out by this method, hopefully not many, especially if they are like me and don't catch the number to call them back0 -
Can these people not be reported to oftel? If not, maybe I should set one of these up myself!!!!!! Could do with the extra cash. LOL0
