NPower tariff query
Options
I'm currently on economy 7 with N Power and supposed to be on their 'Standard economy 7 electricity' tariff, the letter I recieved when I joined said "Tariff NEEB STD". I rang up and queried this and the girl on the phone said they were the same thing.
The tariff charges are as follows ex VAT:
First 728kWh per year 23.200p per kWh
additional kWh 15.390p per kWh
Night rate 4.300p per kWh
I've noticed on my first bill I have been charged:
First 728kWh per year 23.200p per kWh
additional kWh 15.390p per kWh
Night rate 4.300p per kWh
Heat 5.590p per kWh.
I can't find any mention on their website of a different charge for heat. I do have 3 different readings on my meter.
does anyone know anything about this? Is it usual to have 3 different rates? I had expected to have just a day and a night rate.

It's normal to see 2 different day rate where no standing charge is made. It's really just the same as a standing charge with some electricity include in the price. Nothing more than a marketing ploy used by almost every company so they can say "No Standing Charges"
from what I can find
NPower set this at higher rate at 182kwh per quarter
BG at 125
SSE at 364
E-ON, SPower EDF all at 225
For your own purposes ignore all these different thresholds/standing charges, focus on the total cost for the yer for the energy you use.0 -
I don't think you are on E7, but rather on E10 (or something similar)"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100

Thanks for your reply
However, it's not the two day rates I was asking about - I expected those (i mean the high rate for X amount of electricity and then a lower rate after).
I am asking about the third rate that was not advertised - the heat rate.
Does anyone else have this? I'm particularly interested to hear from people not on NPower as I am considering switching suppliers but if NPower don't advertise that they charge a different heat rate, do other providers hide the same information?....0 -
has anyone else had experience of having a third rate?0
