Hello
We have just had an email from Easyjet saying our return flight from Barcelona on Jan 24th 2010 has been cancelled.
They are offering a free transfer or refund - is that all we are entitle to?
If we have to stop another day should they pay for the hotel?:mad:

I'm sure budget airlines don't do return flights, as they class themselves as a point to point airline, and only sell single tickets. They don't see it as cancellation of the return leg, but as the cancellation of a single flight, which you can transfer to another flight, or get a full refund. They do not need to do anything else apart from what they are doing. Why would they pay for the hotel?!
With the full refund, you'd be able to look at other airlines for a single flight..

Well we were meant to come back on the 24th. If we use another of there flights we come back on the 25th - one days extra accomodation which we didn't want.
We have to fly back to Luton as we have booked an airpark/hotel deal. As far as i can see Easyjet are our only option.
On the Easyjet website you click "one way" or click the "returning on" - that kind of signifies a return flight no???0 -
Ryanair operate from Barcelona (Girona - not the main Barcelona airport) to Luton on 24/1/10 - maybe of use? Current fare is 15 Euro + add ons0

nice work Scotty.
Has anybody flown from Girona? Is it a decent journey? About 60 miles i think?0 -

No, it does not signify a return flight.
Easyjet have given you sufficient notice and therefore are not liable for additional costs.Gone ... or have I?0 -
Where cancellations are at least 14 days ahead -
Under EU law you are entitled to
A refund of the full price you paid for your ticket within seven days for the part or parts of your journey not made (and for the part or parts already made if the flight is no longer serving any purpose in relation to your original travel plan) and a return flight to the departure airport as soon as possible.
or
Re-routing to your final destination as soon as possible or, if you agree, at a later date. (If the airline flies you to another airport in your destination city then they must pay for the transfer to the airport you were booked for or to another close-by point of your choice)
So Easyjet are not liable for extra accommodation costs.0 -
Easyjet is showing one return flight on the 24th at 21.45 ,is that the one they say they have cancelled ?
Or 2 flights on 23rd and 1 on 25th
Depends how much the refund is as the flights on 23rd are 16 Euro and 69 Euro on 25thHave a nice day0 -

This seems very strange. I was just able to go onto EJ site and buy 2 seats on the BCN to Luton flight on the date they have canceled yours on. Very expensive mind while the dates either side are quite cheap. I am a cynical type and would almost think that you bought your tickets at a cheap price and EJ are dumping you onto another flight to maximize the amount they could get for the tickets at full whack.
I would phone them and make them aware that they have empty seats on the flight they have dumped you from, and insist that they reinstate you. Tell them the call is being recorded and take screen shots of the relevant pages.The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
Or you could just insist that if they are re-routing you on the following day's flight that you are entitled to the Right to Care under Article 9 of EC 261/2004:
Article 5
Cancellation
1. In case of cancellation of a flight, the passengers concerned shall:
(a) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 8; and
(b) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 9(1)(a) and 9(2), as well as, in event of re-routing when the reasonably expected time of departure of the new flight is at least the day after the departure as it was planned for the cancelled flight, the assistance specified in Article 9(1)(b) and 9(1)(c);
Article 8
Right to reimbursement or re-routing
1. Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall be offered the choice between:
(a) - reimbursement within seven days, by the means provided for in Article 7(3), of the full cost of the ticket at the price at which it was bought, for the part or parts of the journey not made, and for the part or parts already made if the flight is no longer serving any purpose in relation to the passenger's original travel plan, together with, when relevant,
- a return flight to the first point of departure, at the earliest opportunity;
(b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity; or
(c) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at a later date at the passenger's convenience, subject to availability of seats.
2. Paragraph 1(a) shall also apply to passengers whose flights form part of a package, except for the right to reimbursement where such right arises under Directive 90/314/EEC.
3. When, in the case where a town, city or region is served by several airports, an operating air carrier offers a passenger a flight to an airport alternative to that for which the booking was made, the operating air carrier shall bear the cost of transferring the passenger from that alternative airport either to that for which the booking was made, or to another close-by destination agreed with the passenger.
Article 9
Right to care
1. Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall be offered free of charge:
(a) meals and refreshments in a reasonable relation to the waiting time;
(b) hotel accommodation in cases
- where a stay of one or more nights becomes necessary, or
- where a stay additional to that intended by the passenger becomes necessary;
(c) transport between the airport and place of accommodation (hotel or other).
2. In addition, passengers shall be offered free of charge two telephone calls, telex or fax messages, or e-mails.
3. In applying this Article, the operating air carrier shall pay particular attention to the needs of persons with reduced mobility and any persons accompanying them, as well as to the needs of unaccompanied children.
As the cancellation was outside of the 14 day period, then you are not entitled to the further compensatory payment under article 70
