Carry a virus scan, trojan and worm scan. Sounds like you might have some creepy crawlies in the system.
If this does not work, carry out a system restore. Roll back to a date you believe everything is running fine. Make sure you back up all important data though!!!
If this does not work, try this! Strange but may work. Get the latest BIOS from your manufacturer! Update the computer. Make sure it is powered on by the plug and not battery. Do not touch the computer when it is flashing the BIOS.
If this does not work! Start afresh! Wipe the system clean and start again.
Worse for worse! Have you tried installing firefox?Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'

Try .
Run IE in No Add-ons Mode. Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) - If this fixes the issue, then go to Tools -> Manage Add-ons and enable the add-ons one by one to find which one was causing the problem.0 -

No drop down available in Chrome as far as I know.
You can press Ctrl+H to bring-up the History page right away. Or the Wrench menu >> History0 -
If you click the + button on top it will show the recent/active visit and type this in browser bar for history "chrome://history/"0
