I am gathering info to solve my problem HELP
I have a problem with everybodys favourite utility company British Gas....
Anyway I wont go Into it right now but if anybody is interested then just reply to this and I'll post it...Right now I'm gathering information if anyone can help...Here are my questions...
1) What would I have to do to use 8460 Kwh of Electric?...i.e have every light on 24 hours a day for a whole year along with a boiling kettle...
2) Can Meters go Wrong? I've been told by British Gas their meters can't
3) Would anyone think or even know whether there is a similarity in Energy usage...I'll explain it .. On average is the Electric bill bigger than the Gas or vice versa and just say on average if an Electric bill is a £1000 on average a gas bill would be £600 ... you could roughly estimate someones Gas bill by looking at the Electricity.....
4) How accurate are these Electricity monitors?
I know there is some strange questions there but all are relevant so any info would be appreciated

1. A typical 2200W kettle could burn 8460kWh in just over half a year if it was on 24/7 (and lasted that long)
Put another way, 8460kWh is less than 1 kWh per hour for a year - not impossible especially if you leave things on stand-by
In fact, it's less than the average for an all electric property.
2. Yes. They should be able to check them for you for a fee, but you may need evidence to show they might be wrong.
3. No correlation I'm afraid. It all depends what appliances you have and how you use them.
4. Depends on what you want to use them for (not accurate enough for billing purposes) ... and whether you set them up correctly in the first instance."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Regarding your first question - when my 2 daughters were living at home we used well in excess of 8000kwH pa - that is with gas for hot water, most of the cooking and heating !!
Multiple TVs and videos, hair dryers and straighteners, three PCs plus lights and washing m/c and tumble dryer were blamed for the high usage.
Even now with only myself and OH in the house we use ~ 6500kwH pa.
Electric meters can go wrong - I saw one recently which had an earth fault which wasn't recording correctly (having said that it looked like the 5th of November in the meter cupboard!!)0 -
Thanks both I have reposted this with some extra bits...Titled Who and What is right or wrong? No One's Kicking Away My ladder Anymore0
