Hi.

DS and girlfriend have decided to go on holiday at Easter and have chosen Egypt as their destination. I think they have slightly different ideas about holidays as gf likes beach hols, pools and generally doing stuff young people do, whereas DS has mentioned pyramids and sites (though would still like a nice hotel) although he could be persuaded otherwise.

Can anyone suggest somewhere suitable? Their budget will be £500 for package each, plus spending and it's his first time abroad alone so it will need to be a package rather than diy arrangements.

Thanks for any suggestions.

  • I stayed at The Three Corners Kiroseiz a couple of years ago and had a great time. It is in Namma Bay which is the largest of all the resorts, its around a 25 to 30 minute walk into Namma Bay Street which is where all the shops, bars, restaurants are. Otherwise it is a 5 min taxi ride but we enjoyed the walk.

We stayed in the main hotel complex but they also have around a dozen beach bungalows which are around 15 minues away via a taxi/bus. The bungalows have their own beach area with pontoon for diving and eating facilities. Personally I preferred the hotel as the bungalows are a little isolated but you can use the facilities down there if you are staying in the main hotel complex which is great. The hotel runs a free shuttle bus every hour or so between the bungalows and hotel which you can also use to go to and from Namma Bay Street.

A good web site for info on the location of hotels is www.goredsea.com then use tripadvisor to check out reviews.

We also did the trip to Cairo/Giza to see The Pyramids/Sphinx/Cairo Museum. Absolutely amazing although it is a long day, expect to pay around £150 pp for this trip or the trip to Luxor which is where The Valley Of The Kings is. This includes an internal flight. It can be doen cheaper going by bus but I wouldn't fancy that to be honest.

I went to egypt in june this year for 2 weeks with my girlfriend (we were both 20 at the time).Like the poster above we stayed at the kiroseiz too and loved it. TBH i think the general standard of hotels in egypt are fairly good, with good deals to be had. The kiroseiz was massive with three pools and a few a la carte restaurants. Be aware that you may need to use the toilet a fair few times when you eat the food in egypt as it takes a while to get use to the food, but thats not too say the food was bad, i think its the way its cooked different over there or something. Anyways we were £600 p.p for two weeks in june all inclusive which i thought was great for two weeks all inclusive in a country where you are pretty much guaranteed sunshine so their £500 budget should be fine

Now i know you wanted a package but...

We also did cairo to see the pyramids and loved it. There are two ways to get to cairo, bus or plane. The reps were charging a fortune...cant remember the exact figure but it was around £100 for bus and £150 for the plane option per person. My advice would be to do what we did if they fancy going to the pyramids. We booked flights before we left to go to cairo through egpytair.com ( make sure you set ur country to egpyt in the top right hand corner to get a better deal). we got flights return flights for £32 p.p. We also booked a guide before we left (if you want any details i will be happy to let you know). The guide had a sign with our name at cairo airport when we arrived and picked us up in an airconditioned van. lunch at the pyramids, and also a visit to the egyptian museum aswell as a trip to the market but the name has escaped me was all included! The only extra was if we wanted to go inside the pyramids. All in we spent around £140-£165 for the both of us which was a great saving.

i havent got time to check over spelling etc so sorry if its bad!

Wow that's quite a saving. I wonder if my son and gf would manage organising this, though most of it could be done before they go. We'll definitely look at the hotel.
    Thanks for all the help.

  • I should add that the bungalows area has a great area set aside for sunbathing, no pool but its a private area with sun loungers which are free. Basically it was nice for a change of scenery and generally nice and relaxing.
  • Hi, I've been looking for an All Inclusive to Egypt in January recently as I'm sick of the winter already. In my opinion, the Teletext Holidays website seems to consistently have the cheapest deals. I've trawled numerous other websites and none of them seem to beat the holidays listed on the Teletext site for price.

What I tend to do is draw up a shortlist of hotels then go to the Trip Advisor or Holiday Watchdog sites to see what people are saying.
There are some good deals to be had out there at the moment. :xmassign:
  • if all you want to do on your AI is chill by the pool and snorkel the reefs, then I'd recommend the less-discovered resort of Marsa Alam. 15 min transfer from the airport. There are trips to the pyramids etc but you have to get up at 3am, I believe (we didn't do it). It's in the middle of nowhere, so don't expect to be going on scenic walks - that said, the hotels are nicely landscaped and the service is wonderful. We loved the Iberotel Coraya Bay (best of the bunch), even though we both succombed to a bit of tummy trouble. Check out my review of the hotel on Tripadvisor.
  • How do you go about booking a guide to meet you in Cairo, if you choose to fly there without booking it via a rep?

There are a bunch on tripadvisor on the egypt forum bitty. I emailed a few of them and picked out the one that suited me and my other half the best :)

id post the link but im not allowed! Its easy enough to find though!
  • We have visited egypt 3 times 1st time hotel in Luxor saw all the sites 2nd time Nile cruise saw all the sites again every thing was already arranged but it was a lot better. 3rd time was during a holiday in Cyprus and took a cruise over to Egypt to see the pyramids its not worth spending a holiday in Cairo only the pyramids sphynx and museum there worth seeing. I want to go again on a cruise you can either visit the sites or lounge by the pool. Thats my experience hopeit has helped
  • Hi there.
I went to Hurgada in October this year (Look for Luxor, and turn very (!) left. On the red sea).
Was supposed to be fantastic diving, but its been kinda wrecked by the tourists somewhat. Is okay tho if youre prepared to spend 20 mins in a taxi for a great site, or do a day trip.
The resort is great for all but possiblly the much older folk. It is up and coming and so prices are a bit cheaper tha Sharm, and there are less tourists. It isnt however a place of solitude, it is just being developed...hence the low price.
Was clean on the main strip tho, and the building work is well hidden overall.
The resort has some samey shops, but is nice, and the beach is a beach! A bit oily, cos there is an oilrig off the coast, but its simply a beach.
The resort has lots of internationally known nightclubs, eg Little Buddaha. Great that they are hidden from the hotels, and so dont cause disturbance for other guests. They seem to have thought it out a bit there.
    Hotel
I stayed in the Sinbad Club Aqua, park of the Sinbad hotel complex in Hurgurda. (seach engine it, their website is very comprehensive). 3 hotels within 2 mins of each other. AI guests can use all facs at the sister hotels upon showing their guestcard. (no wristbands, but cards).
The complex I stayed on was possiblly the one in the area which was a) the best value for your cash, b) had things going on from relaxing by a quiet pool, clubbing in a beach resort and a fun, and very scary waterpark! As it was AI almost everything hotel based was included, and if you tipped well, and were poliet, the staff couldnt do enough for you. We averaged £369 for 7 night AI. package & T/Fs deal, of course!!! comparison sited the deal.
    Luxor
We felt it rude NOT to do an excursion, so opted for a coach to Luxor. Was very cheap,(£60) booked thro Hotel Rep, but was a very busy, long and HOT day. Got up at 4am, but coach was comfy enough to sleep on. Honestly tho, I would poss book a 2 day affair and stay in Luxor (again thro rep). That way you are not arriving at 9am rush hour, and being told you have 20 mins to 'do' the Valley of the Kings. Still, was amazing to see.
Lots of 'lookie/buyie' guys on all trips. Just smile nicely and say 'La Shukran' and they will be poliet. Dont go into shops tho unless you are prob going to buy..they seem to think its a bit rude to browse?..
Ladies, please wear a long scarf and reasonable length long shorts. One sparsely dressed girl was accosted at every stop off as her BF would not buy things. The locals were quite offended, and so became sometimes offensive about her appearance.
    Money
If this is your first visit to this incredible country, take no notice of Trip Ad when some post that English £ or US $ should be taken. Opt for EGY £ and change your money at Hurgurda Airport on arrival. Honestly, you will get a better exchange rate, and its in the arrivals lounge ahead of you as you walk thro the door. Note tho: Visa needs to be paid in US dollars I believe, so make sure you have just enough for them. Check websites for current prices.
    Tips
Additionally, this is a Tipping country, and almost expected by most: They cannot change US or Sterling very easily, so hence LOTS of egy£5, egy£10 & egy£20 notes for tips.
    Visa
Yes! in oct, the visa WAS needed. The plane staff said no, but er...IT IS COMPULSORY. BE CAREFUL THO: the tour ops will 'herd' you like cattle as soon as you walk into arrivals to queue for your visa. They will charge you more than the current price, and not tell you until you come to pay. we were told $15 by all egy gov websites, but were charged $25 by out own tour op. In Arrivals, right next to the exchange booth is a Visa Booth. Buy it from here.....you will not queue so long and its cheaper...!!
Overall, this is a wonderful all in, something for everyone place. I went with my Bf (1st hol), and we loved it. One regret, we didnt take the kids....they would have loved those water slides!!
If you do go, have a wonderful time
