tax credits

I'm having a slight trouble with the tax credits. I recently got made redundant, been claiming job seekers allowance for six months which just ended. Informed the tax credits office that I won't be getting this now - and they have LOWERED my payments not highered them. no other changes tho - how could they do that? We are left with about £220 for two adults, and two teenage children to pay all bills etc and food. Just wondered how much does the government say a family of four need to live on weekly. . Thank you in anticipation xxx

Does your partner not work? Is it maybe the WTC they have taken away?

no, my husband hasn't worked since being made redundant 6 months ago, but I work - so the wtc should come from me!

    I'm a bit confused.

    When did you stop working?

If neither of you work then you won't get !!!!!! and it should of ended when you got made redundant.
  • If neither works you will not receive WTC, only CTC for the children.

You should also make sure to provide a 2009/10 estimated income figure for both of you. If this is lower than your 2008/09 income you may receive a higher award.

£220 is your CTC and is meant to be for the 2 children, not the adults. And on top of this you will also have child benefit.
If you are on a low income you should be claiming unemployment benefits which would be paid for the adults.

I work - 20 hours a week. My husband does not work!!!!

...so i should be getting wtc and ctc - shouldn't i?

at the moment i get £18 a week wtc
    and £75 a week ctc

I bring home about £100 a week my husband gets nothing at all!!! - no benefits etc

we are struggling on this - i just wanted to know is £200 a week low for a family of four to live on? - my weekly bills come to about £130 before food etc.

Have they maybe taken his redundancy pay into consideration - it is classed as earnings for this year , so could affect tax credits.

I think you have cleared up the confusion...I am guessing the first post was incorrect and should have referred to your OH being made redundant and not you...is that correct?

The way I read it is that both the OP and her husband were unemployed but she now has a job after being on JSA for 6 months.

OP yes you should get WTC and CTC as you work 20 hours per week.

Why is your OH not getting any JSA?

Has the husbands contribution based JSA ended and the OP's earning being taken into account for income based JSA?
