Fake Make Up products

I usually buy my make up and beauty stuff on Ebay and have never had a problem.
I received some Benefit make up yesterday and am pretty sure its fake. Have been using benefit make up for years now and have compared it to the same thing i have just now and is totally different. it has a different consistency, smell, bottle and colour.
I have emailed the seller and have said they didnt know there was such a thing as fake make up. I know there is a lot of fake mac make up about but am unsure about what to do.
They said they bought it from an American seller and they would like them to return it so i have to send it back to them.
Their feedback is ok with 1 neg although checked a bit more and there is one saying pretty sure its a fake benefit product.
Thanks in advance x

Sounds like you already have it sorted - you are returning the item. What exactly are you asking?
If you are returning it then you should be getting a refund, personally I would use the terminology 'you HAVE supplied me with fake products, even if you were unaware' so please refund me as soon as you receive it back. You knew what to expect from the product and it did not meet those standards and therefore was fake - as they didn't buy it from Benefit then they can't argue any different.
If they try to delay the refund until they have sent it to America then open a 'not as described' dispute0 -
Make sure you send it tracked so that if you have to go via a dispute you can prove it. Have they offered you a refund?
If you can prove its fake. For paypal you need a letter from either a manufacturer of supplier supporting that. Paypal will not require you to return if for a refund (they will tell you to destroy it)0 -
they have offered me a refund for the money ive paid for the product, they are not including the postage i paid at first and postage i will pay to send it back.
as they are willing to refund it, i take it i dont have to open a dispute?0 -
The problem about returning a fake item is that it just allows the seller to try and pass it of to some other unsuspecting buyer.
If it were me, my concience would say..get proof it's fake..send the proof to Paypal after opening a dispute and get the item destroyed. Even better..take it to trading standards. There are too many sellers getting away with selling fakes and fake make-up can have serious consequences to someones health if they suffer from sensitivity.
A dispute, IMO is the best way forward..that way you won't lose any money by having to return it to the seller and they don't have goods back to be able to resell.0 -
You will need to get proof that the item is fake. Do this before opening the dispute (you have 45 days) and it may be harder to obtain than you think so leave yourself as much time as possible.
If you open a dispute immediately for a fake item the seller can escalate to a claim and I think you will only have 10 days to provide proof.
Can you open a dispute for SNAD regarding the quality of the product? Is there anything in the listing that does not match with the product that you have received (apart from being fake of course!)
That might be an easier way to claim with paypal - you'll still have to return it at your own expense (make sure you send trackable) but you would get initial postage costs refunded.
Make sure you leave appropriate feedback after the transaction has been concluded.0 -
Hi everyone, i know a bit about this as it is the area i work in. In my personal opinion I would never buy Benefit makeup from ebay unless it was from a private seller who just doesnt want it. anyone who has lots of benefit items i think should be given a wide berth. Benefit do not wholesale to individual traders, the only places i know are allowed to sell benefit are a couple of department stores and an shopping channel. No one on ebay should be claiming that they are wholesalers or be selling it for profit as benefit do not allow this, if they are i would in my opinion consider the item to be fake. I believe also that Benefit and ebay are clamping down on sales of these items so be wary of it.taken on second job + £160 per month

Open a dispute and you will also get your original postage back.0
