Equipower & Equigas

According to the comparison sites transferring to Equipower & Equigas from Scottish Power will save me 18%/annum. However, their service rating is only 2 star which does concern me a little. It's all very good saving some money but if this is at the sacrifice of good service it might not be worth it. Anyone willing to comment on E/p & E/gas service and how smooth the changeover is to them?
The next cheapest are Powegen (5%) with a 4 star rating but I refuse to go near them on principal because of a past battle over money they alleged I owed but didn't.

not a great changeover to be honest, rang them to ask if they wanted a meter reading and what the date would be, was told i'd had a letter sent, asked it be sent again and neither arrived.
however 1st bill was at right date (as told on phone) meter reading was as given and no problems since, bills on time and meter readings as provided.

i just had to be a bit pro-active in the begining.
    worth the cheaper electric imo

Hi Age....my transfer went OK, they have a contract with Southern Electric, and the bills come from there, presumably queries go there too.
Don't know for sure, but think S.El. have a good track record. Part of the Scottish Group.

The only reason the comparison sites rate Ebico as 2* is because they do not pay them any fees.

As an Ebico customer I can state that as Power Companies go they rate a 6* from me !

We never had problems with Ebico just from powergen as they inflated the joint gas/electric bill by about £40  So had to give them new readings.

Southern have been around and read the meter but we have only had a electric bill so far. A little bit early as we only moved on march the 10th but never mind.

Made powergen wait for there money :rotfl: after messing us about.

    Yours

I too can confirm several years of good service. I've been a customer for the past two and a half years but couldn't tell you what their customer service is like as I have never had to contact them - which should in itself say enough. Unlike powergen, then can bill properly.

Just be patient during transfer. Don't be too eager to keep calling to check progress. Just let it all happen.

I too am happy with their service, I moved my gas to Ebico one and a half years ago and I have just transfered my electricity on to them too. I have got a slight problem at the moment as npower tried to transfer my electricity to them without my knowledge, but the transfer is being reversed at the moment, I first had one letter from Southern Electric dated 26/4 telling me of the transfer to NPower, I called them to say that I never signed anything or said anything to them, the second letter was about telling me that they asked npower to reverse the transfer. The third letter was about telling me that the npower had agreed to give back my account to Ebico/Southern Electric. Now I am waiting confirmation of me being back to Ebico.
It takes time, but they let you know what's happening step by step, so you know where you stand. And they answer the phone almost straight away, not like some other utility companies which make you wait for half hour every time you try to talk to someone.
Comparing with my previous utility company, this is top class service.
I heard on the watchdog programme on BBC1 that Southern Electric have one of the best customer service around, and so far I cannot fault them.

I got the application form from Ebico today and have decided to switch to them for both gas and electricity (was only going for gas originally). Their prices are tremendous - can't find anything near as cheap for either, so they'll probably put their prices up now.

Yes, I am only on Gas at the moment and with British Gas Click Energy for Electricity. British Gas Click Energy service is appauling and I wish now I had gone to Ebico for both Gas and Electricity. I think in a few months time (September was given as the most likely time) when Ebico raise their prices I will see how they compare on Electricity and probably ditch British Gas.
