Tax Credits when off sick

Options
I have been getting Working Tax Credits (disability part) for years. I started a new job 4 months ago and have been off sick for the last few weeks, theproblem is the company do not pay out company sick pay until 6 months service has been completed so I am only getting SSP which I think is about £66/week. What do I do re my tax  credits? Do I inform them and they cancel it? or can I be absent for so long before telling them? If I dont tell them and they see my income on the next p60 was a few hundred less than that they expect will they ask for it back? I am paying full rent and council tax at the moment still so am not much better off getting the tax credit than if it was stopped and I claimed housing benefit instead. The company policy really sucks to be doing this to me. Thanks for any info.

  • From TaxAid 2.2 Working tax credit - special rules

Employees You are treated as continuing in qualifying remunerative work, and meeting the working hours conditions, during any of the periods listed below, if you were actually engaged in such work immediately before the beginning of the period. These are periods: • during which you are paid statutory sick pay, or short-term incapacity benefit at the lower rate, or income support because of incapacity for work; or • for which you receive national insurance credits on the grounds of incapacity for work. The qualifying period in the case of income support and national insurance contributions is limited to 28 weeks beginning on the day in which or for which you receive income or have national insurance contributions credited.

So from this it seems that I am ok to continue getting the credits. Thanks :)
