Is there a bank account with an additional cardholder facility? (NOT CREDIT CARD)?

My partner and I need a joint bank account for bills for house etc. However, he has excellent credit but my history is poor, so we have been refused a joint bank account application.
Is there another form of account we can have in his name with me as an additional card holder? We don't want an overdraft, or cheque book. Just a basic account that we can put money into and withdraw if needed.
Any advice would be great.:j

You should be able to get a basic bank account in joint names from just about any of the main banks.
Co-op have one
Halifax Easycash is one
Nat West I'm fairly sure have one as well
Others will too
I'm not aware of any bank that will issue an ATM/debit card to somebody who is not the account holder.

Open the Barclays Cash Card Account.
The account comes with a debit card, despite the name of the account. You only need one piece of ID (passport or driving licence). Account details are provided on the same day. Card/PIN arrives within 2-3 working days.
Very opening account process.0 -

I have a Lloyds current account in my name that I have assigned a signatory to who is able to use the ATM/debit card issued to me, so maybe that's a way round it for the OP.0
