Need help please!!!!!!!!! new computer and disk eject button stopped working :(

Hi bascially bought a new computer yesterday, is a Packard bell ixtreme x5620uk (which also says its a M3720) with windows 7 64bit 4gb ram, the button was working fine yesterday but now wont open at all? I can still open the disk drive from My computer and if i push slighty on it, then it will close, but then i got to go into windows media player, to reopen it if a disk is in at the time.
So tried the website, obviously, not much help, just wondering if anyone knew what to do???

Thanks

There's many things you could try but the best bet would be to take it back, if you try and fix it you might invalidate the warranty and give them an excuse not to replace it.

Not having a copy of Windows 7 to hand, I hope that suggesting that you go into Windows Explorer (or the equivalent of My Computer) and right-click on the DVD/CD drive letter, you should get a menu one of whose options should be Eject.

There's an Eject CD program from Cortex (and lots of others elsewhere).

And the old "open out a paperclip and insert the straight bit into the similarly-sized hole somewhere on the front of the DVD/CD drive and push gently but firmly" trick!

But these are all short-term bypasses to the main problem, and yes, of course you need to take it back!
  • So in other words its stuffed? Theres not even any information on the Packard Bell website, just its took me ages to set it all up arghhhhhhhh the disk drive works fine, i could still burn discs etc, its just the main button just stopped working

Get a paperclip and unbend it so it is straight then poke it into the very small hole infront panel of drive then the tray should open slightly then you just need to pull it to retrieve disk

When you take it back, ask them to check the ! button too - it seems to be sticking ;)

well worst case new CD/DVD drives are very cheap these days
from £15 for a new DVD rewriter... or treat yourself to Bluray (reader) for £50 :)
  • Take it back, but first eject the disk as suggested above by right clicking on the drive icon in My Computer then In a word

    !!! Warranty !!!
  • Found this thread today after getting one of these machines myself. Bit late to the party but hopefully this will help anyone else finding the thread.

The machine's not faulty, but needs a driver installing (the eject button's not a conventional eject button, but a 'soft' eject button). Packard Bell don't offer it for download for some reason, but it's available from Gateway's website for their DX4300 (the equivalent of this machine).

Sadly as a newish user of this site I'm not allowed to post proper links, so please add the appropriate parts to this URL to get the utility:
