So a cheque went missing and you threw a hissy fit?

Why did you not just cancel the cheque once it went missing and asked for another cheque as it seems to have got lost? Then banked it....

Not Citibank, though Nat West lost my deposit cheque.

Cancel the cheque and resend it, or better still send it via BACS then you won't have to worry about the postal strike.

I suspect the Ombudsman won't help very much. I'm guessing Citibank will just claim you forgot to put the second cheque in the envelope.

It's you who has not read our posts fully. Neither of them contradicts what you say. Yes they ought to respond to your emails but like I say I doubt they would even accept there were 2 cheques in the envelope unless the other one turns up.

Did you write your account number on the cheque? Otherwise, they might just throw away even they found it. Anyway, sometimes cheque did stuck inside the envelope. I know it is annoying. But nothing much you can do.

But not necessarily problem free. I recently made a BACS transfer to Halifax. Checked my Halifax account and it had safely arrived. Then next day it had gone again without any explanation. They'd just removed the record of it as if it had never been there.

They now accept that they did receive it but don't know what happened to it. They thought it might have gone back to the account I sent it from but it hasn't. Fortunately it isn't for an enormous sum but the capacity for incompetence by some UK banks is stunning.
  • I have been chasing up Citibank for 6 weeks after they provisionally approved my savings account application (the 3.3% one featured on this website) but then failed to send me anything.

Upon phoning them today I discover that my application was declined, even after they said it had been approved after I sent them proof of address.

Even more bizarrely, the account was declined for "security reasons". I asked what those reasons were and they said they couldn't tell me, again for "security reasons"!

I have a perfect credit history and have never been in debt or defaulted on anything. I have no criminal record.

What am I a terrorist or something? On what grounds can they deny your application?

Judging by the horror stories elsewhere on this forum - I am GLAD they denied my application - it sounds like moving money around with them would have been an absolute nightmare!
