3 mobile debt - collectors ignoring letters - harassment?

Hi all,
Hope someone can help, have had a disputed bill for £489.75 (we believe it was settled in 2007 but have no paperwork) passed through 4 debt collectors, have sent a National Debtline "prove it" letter on to the most recent collector (Roxburghe) and received a response on the 7th October stating they would go back to their client (listed as HFO services - I believe 3 actually have re-assigned this debt) and all collection activity would be suspended while it was being investigated. Today we received a letter from "Graham White Solicitors", dated 15th October - 8 days after all activity was supposedly suspended. The letter is headed "Letter Before Action" and states their aim is to obtain payment. They then after some blurb advising us to seek legal advice, states that "By refusing to speak to us you are failing in your duty to resolve this dispute" - which is completely not the case! It ends the letter asking us to contact their office to arrange payment.
Can anyone please advise what's the next letter I should send - and is this a serious threat of legal action?
Thanks in advance.

From google I get the feeling that Graham White Solicitors is a made up name they use, when I search google I find Graham White & co Solicitors it says on their contact us page, We are in no way connected with Graham White Solicitors or Roxburgh Debt Collectors.
I take it you have sent everything recorded del? If not ensure that you send a further copy of your complaint this way, but 99% chance that its system gen0 -
I would send the prove it letters to the new debt collector as no one has yet proven it.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Thanks all, was thinking this ...
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1111469&page=6 #103 could be a good follow up letter? And yes I have sent recorded delivery and kept copies.0 -
Looks OK.

It probably is just an automatically generated letter in the end....Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I am having the same problem with 3G which has been ongoing for over two years now! And I have just submitted my story to the BBC Watchdog. If we can get enough people to submit their storys maybe they will be investigated and shown for they are!
Just follow this link....

Hi I had a problem with 3 mobile after 18 months of me writing to different debt collectors saying they were wrong as they didn't honor contract they gave up and settled the account with no defaults against me. I also reported 3 to trading standards each time I wrote to the debt collectors I told them this and they would not contact me againDebt at LBM £19700

I just received the same letter and text from Roxburghe today, over 5 years after cancelling my direct debit with 3. They had provided me with a phone which couldn't be repaired and the only option they gave me was to upgrade and extend my contract by a further 12 months, they didn't offer to replace as per my consumer rights. I was also having trouble making any calls/sending or receiving texts when the phone indicated full signal at home.
I was already annoyed that 3 logged a defalt notice against my credit file (which no longer appears on my file). Today, I received a request to pay £370, which when I spoke to them they reduced to £241. I don't have a real problem with the amount of money, its more the fact that three effectively breached the contract as I was unable to use the phone/network. The problem I guess I have is that this wa less than six years ago, and since email correspondence with three over 5 years ago which failed to resolve the issue, I have heard nothing until now.
Any ideas whether I should just go ahead and settle?!0 -
No don't settle! Don't speak to them by phone, send them a letter (see the link I've posted above, you may wish to start with the letter drafted in post #102 rather than #103). They're cowboys, and we've heard nothing more since I sent this letter to Graham White solicitors who were chasing on behalf of Roxburghe (look up the two companies, they're in the same office!!). Even if they do keep in contact the next step is to report them to the OFT, they have already put a default on you once so can't do it again, you have nothing to lose by not paying them! If you want any more info let me know but from the research I've done you definitely shouldn't bother paying.0

Hi,
Just got a demand for over £600 from some Roxburghe Debt Colletors from a tiscali account I canceleld 2 or 3 years ago. First ever such demand...
Seems after reading here it is a bit of scam. I have got in touch with Tiscali asking what this about and phone droxburghe to say I do not accept that debt and wil lseek legal advice.
What should I do now? Wait and see? Can't we do something about this?0
